Robert Griffin III Talks Family, Anatomy Vocabulary, Progeny

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on November 27, 2013 – 3:27 pm

Griff smile

Robert Griffin III will protect his family.

In a Wednesday press conference, the quarterback was asked why his father entered the locker room Monday night after a loss to the 49ers, an appearance people have dubbed unusual.

Griffin III said his dad was just checking on his son after a physical game.

“I was shocked that he was there, but he meant no harm,” Griffin III said. “Anybody out there that’s going after my dad needs to back up. That is my father. I will protect my family.”

Why was his dad concerned? Aldon Smith kicked Griffin III between the thighs. Read more »

Player’s Turn: Robert Griffin III At The Mic

Posted by Stephen Czarda on November 27, 2013 – 2:17 pm

He’d done it so many times before. Fake the handoff, bootleg out, turn, fire a laser to Pierre Garcon.

Instead of hitting his No. 1 target in stride, the ball landed in the hands of Donte Whitner. That’s the kind of night No. 10 had Monday.

Self-admitting that 2013 has gone far from the high expectations, quarterback Robert Griffin III said you’ll never seen him quit on himself or his teammates. There are five regular season games left and it’d be ridiculous to pack it in now.

He addressed his Monday performance and looked ahead to the Giants at his afternoon press conference which was slightly earlier than usual on this modified week of preparation after losing a day due to MNF and Thanksgiving.

Coach’s Turn: Mike Shanahan At The Mic

It wasn’t fun. It wasn’t a game that will live positively in franchise lore.

But it’s time to move on from Monday’s 27-6 defeat.

There are still five games left on the season, two against the NFC East rival New York Giants. Game one of the season series is Sunday under the bright light of NBC’s cameras.

The Giants started the season worse than the Redskins, falling as low as 0-6 before winning four straight games. Last Sunday, despite playing in front of their loyal fan base, the G-Men watched as Tony Romo led the Cowboys to a victory.

After the first practice of the week, head coach Mike Shanahan gave a participation update on Darrel Young and Jordan Reed, filling the last spot on the active roster, quarterback Robert Griffin III and Santana Moss’ team-first mentality.

Redskins Weekly Stat Ranking Update

Posted by Stephen Czarda on November 27, 2013 – 12:54 pm

(AP Image)

I think all of Redskins Nation can agree that if Alfred Morris got more carries they’d be more than thankful.

Last season the rookie back looked more like an All-Pro than a guy that was going to carry around fullback Darrel Young’s helmet as his backup.

Okay so he was obviously better than his 173rd overall selection, but a repeat performance? Nah said the hater.

Averaging five yards per carry? Nah he can’t carry the load like that again.

Leading the league in 20-plus yard runs? Far too slow for that.

Even the staunchest hater can’t overlook the fact that Morris is one of the best at his position right now.

With 5.0 YPC, nearly 1,000 yards and five touchdowns, Morris has successfully dodged all of the sophomore slump nonsense.

More from this week’s stats ranking update and a little analysis:

Mike Shanahan: Redskins Need “Urgency”

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on November 27, 2013 – 12:30 pm

After reviewing game film of the Redskins’ third straight loss, Mike Shanahan said the team has no choice but to recollect itself and bounce back.

In his weekly one-on-one interview with CSN Washington’s Chick Hernandez, Shanahan said a short week preparing for the Giants will be another test of his team’s constitution.

“There’s gotta be a sense of urgency with our football team that when we do get embarrassed like we did and do score six points, what are we gonna do against the Giatns? How are we gonna play? And that’s where you find out where your character comes from. “

Power Rankings Roundup: Week 12

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on November 27, 2013 – 11:30 am

I’m going to stick with the blues theme, but I need something a little more vicious. There we go. Perfect. Plus now I’m picturing this guy.

After the 49ers dropped the Redskins, 27-6, on Monday Night Football, Washington is going down in all of the power rankings.

ESPN has all sorts of fancy numbers to describe the team’s trouble on offense.

Week 13 Redskins Fantasy Roundup

Posted by Stephen Czarda on November 27, 2013 – 10:58 am

Like Carrie Underwood, you might have to wait all day until Sunday night to see if you’re one of the lucky few who will enjoy a post-Thanksgiving fantasy victory.

With the boys in burgundy and gold playing in prime time once again, this time against Big Blue, you’re decision to start Robert Griffin III, Alfred Morris or Pierre Garcon could leave you with gnawed fingernails.

While I recommend you don’t eat away at your own body parts, I do endorse this week’s Redskins fantasy round as a much-need assistant in your playoff push.
