Fourth Quarter Conclusions: #SFvsWAS

The scene at the end was jarring. With more than two minutes left to play and the Redskins taking possession, peppy music played to an otherwise silent stadium as cheerleaders bopped red-and-green Christmas pom-poms devoid of cheer.

The Redskins didn’t score a touchdown, and the league’s worst passing offense threw in three. Colin Kaepernick went 15 of 24 with 235 yards and three touchdowns.

San  Francisco downed Washington, 27-6, at FedExField on Monday Night Football. The 49ers defense was too much. Read more »

Cofield With The Big Time Forced Fumble

There are two things Redskins nose tackle Barry Cofield is good at.

The first is wearing a Northwestern fitted hat and the second, and more important to football fans outside of the Illinois school’s campus, is playing some pretty good football from the nose tackle position.

With the offense failing to sniff the end zone yet, the Redskins needed a big ‘rah-rah’ kind of play to get them going to start the second half.

They got in in the form of a forced fumble—and recovery—on a Vernon Davis catch.

Third Quarter Thoughts: #SFvsWAS

It looks like Robert Griffin III found his rhythm in the second quarter.

He completed three straight passes on the Redskins first scoring drive of the game, then hit five straight, including two consecutive 18-yard strikes, near the end of the half to lead to Washington’s second field goal.

Griffin III ended the half 10-of-17 with 84 yards. Alfred Morris got going, picking up 82 of his 84 yards rushing in the second period. Read more »

Redskins Honor Code Talkers

Posted by Redskins.com on November 25, 2013 – 9:57 pm

For decades, they kept their honor a secret.

When the Navajo Code Talkers were asked about their role supporting the United States in World War II, they would leave out the most important part of the story. They said they were radio communications men, nothing more. The truth was 400 of them, some only 16 and 17 years old, used their Native American language to send American messages Japanese code breakers could not solve.

The Washington Redskins honored four of these Native American heroes on Monday, recognizing them at halftime during their home game against the 49ers and hosting the veterans for a private guided tour of National Museum of the Marine Corps. Read more »

Second Quarter Summary: #SFvsWAS

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on November 25, 2013 – 9:19 pm

(AP)

(AP)

Washington’s defense started strong, recording two sacks in the first quarter and stifling San Francisco’s first two drives. But the Redskins offense couldn’t reciprocate, appearing out of sorts from the beginning.

Robert Griffin III has not looked sharp. The quarterback did not complete his first four passes, missing short and long alike, but to be fair the first one was dropped by Pierre Garcon. Griffin III ended the quarter 1-for-6 with -1 yards passing and an interception. Read more »

First Quarter Happenings: #SFvsWAS

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on November 25, 2013 – 8:24 pm

The lights came on, and the iconic jingle pumped through the speakers at FedExField. “Da dah duh duhhhhh” doesn’t evoke the same chills when cheerleaders work out their choreography hours before kickoff, but it’s still a sign.

It’s Monday Night Football, and the world is watching.

Parallels abound between San Francisco (6-4) and Washington (3-7), two teams with young quarterbacks who have fallen short of the preseason hype through 10 weeks. The Redskins chew up yards but don’t score when it counts. The 49ers are last in the league in passing yards per game. Read more »

Hello Redskins Nation, I am Stephen Czarda Redskins.com writer and amateur meteorologist here to tell you that FedExField is the new frozen tundra tonight for this NFC Monday night affair.

I’m currently writing this post with a beanie on, two pairs of gloves, a pair of Redskins long johns underneath my snazzy dress pants and a few boogies hanging out of my nose.

Now that I’ve thoroughly grossed you out with that last descriptor (don’t worry I don’t), I can give you the weather rundown for tonight’s game.

Brrrrrrrrrr.

Anyway, I’m also here to give you tonight’s Redskins.com’s feature poll results.

We’re coming for you Kaep.

VOTE: Keys To Shooing The 49ers Away

Posted by Stephen Czarda on November 25, 2013 – 4:25 pm

Colin Kaepernick might be able to throw the skin off the ball, but he can also give Usain Bolt a run for his money if given the opportunity.

Don’t be the defense that is shown on his personal highlight reel, guys.

The 49er defense ices out opponents the moment they get the ball, but will the freeze be any match for Old Man Winter’s first wrath of the 2013 season?

What do you think the biggest key is to tonight’s showdown with the San Francisco 49ers?

Here’s a handy poll you can vote in:
