Darrel Young Hangs Out With Heroes

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on November 21, 2013 – 5:14 pm

DY Salute to service

For half an hour on Thursday, members of the U.S. Armed Forces got to hang out with Darrel Young.

As  a part of Salute to Service Week here at Redskins Park, Young took part in a Google+ Heroes Hangout with military personnel from Fort Meade and Fort Bragg and one sergeant stationed in Italy.

Young fielded questions from the service members and told stories about receiving tough love from his older brother David, a sergeant first class in the U.S. Army stationed in Afghanistan, his unorthodox path to the NFL the day he thought the Redskins cut him for a second time

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan had his team practice outside this afternoon, adjusting to the elements with Monday’s forecasted chilly temps and awful sounding 30-plus MPH winds at FedExField making the thought of living in Florida sound better than ever.

Shanahan kicked off his Thursday press conference with practice participation updates for Jordan Reed, Stephen Bowen, Darrel Young and Josh Wilson.

With two new receivers added to the active roster in as many weeks, the offense has received some new blood and fresh legs for the stretch run.

What sort of impact will they have though?

After Mike Shanahan announcing that Joshua Morgan would replace Leonard Hankerson, gone for the season with injury (made room for Lance Lewis’ promotion),  in the starting lineup yesterday, he also said Fred Davis would indeed be active for the first time in over a month if Jordan Reed can’t go.

How will the offense react to the changes? Will the new guys/Griffin III’s old security blanket make an immediate impact? How often will Alfred Morris get the ball?

Younger Shanahan’s answers to all of those questions and more below:

Alfred Morris

In Episode 6 of Lenovo’s Tough Season, an original video series from Lenovo and The Onion, Alfred Morris attempts to rescue owner Brad Blevins from the depths of despair.

The Gridiron Glory Boys are on the brink of missing the playoffs, which means Blevins might actually have to spend time with his wife.

With a suggestion from Morris, an uplifting locker room rally and a technicality, Brad can fill his lungs with sweet, sweet hope.

Who wants to hang out with the Hendersons anyway?

Joe Jacoby’s Life Off The Field In Pictures

Posted by Stephen Czarda on November 21, 2013 – 1:40 pm

With yesterday’s news that longtime Hog Joe Jacoby is up for possible Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinement once again I figured I could either write another list of accolades (Redskins.com’s Brian Tinsman did a full rundown of that a few years ago) the offensive lineman collected along the way, blocking out another spot for his personal trophy case in the process, or I could try to find the “other” things Jacoby did during his time here.

I choose the latter and trust me when I say you won’t be disappointed with what I found.

Perusing through the Redskins Park archives I stumbled across a large collection of pictures ranging from him high-fiving Mark May to perfect protection of Doug Williams and clean jersey in the background to picking up Art Monk after he scored a goal line touchdown.

I also found that he dressed up as Frankenstein, looked tiny compared to a local basketball star and had one of the greatest retirement ceremonies in franchise history.

London Fletcher tackled the pronouns for Robert Griffin III.

About four hours before Griffin III gripped a podium Wednesday and took ownership of the final failed play in Philadelphia, the 16-year veteran linebacker stood in the locker room at Redskins Park and defended his 23-year old quarterback.

“This is a great young leader,” Fletcher said. Read more »

Coach’s Turn: Jim Haslett At The Mic

On Thursday, Washington Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett addressed the media just moments before his unit stepped onto the practice field in the backyard of Redskins Park to focus on exposing weaknesses in the 49ers’ offense and attacking them.

Those deficiencies are few and far between though, so a good week of preparation is paramount heading into Monday night.

Despite a down season, Haslett praised Colin Kapernick on his playing style being similar to that of Robert Griffin III, athleticism and “big”arm.

As for Frank Gore, Haslett described him as a “violent runner” who poses a different threat than anything they have faced this season.

More from his weekly press conference courtesy of the Redskins’ Twitter account (@Redskins):

Week 12 Redskins Fantasy Roundup

Monday is going to be a chilly one—but hopefully it’s just the temps and not your fantasy lineup needing to ice up,son.

Waiting a little longer than usual to see them in action, the Washington Redskins could be the difference between defeating your neighbor in apartment 3E and having to hear his nonsense for another week that he won another fantasy matchup against you.

Don’t be that guy/gal that went into the showdown making decisions on a whim because your “gut” told you to.

Here is this week’s fantasy football projection/rankings cheat sheet:
