Dave Feldman Talks Redskins-49ers

Abandoning ship for the opportunity to soak in 60 degree November days and occasionally whipping out that speedo he’d been looking to show off but couldn’t in our Nation’s Capital, former Fox 5 personality Dave Feldman returned yesterday—sorta.

Now with CSN Bay Area, Feldy joined “The Drive with Cooley & Czabe” to talk Redskins-49ers before the big Monday Night Football tilt.

Normally I wouldn’t allow other media market reporter nonsense to seep into the blog, but since he was here for so long he gets a pass.

Judging by his praise of the 49er defense, he’s an old school guy who still walks around with a cassette player, oversized bomber jacket, all-white tennis shoes and watches the NFL’s best defensive performances on VHS.

Player’s Turn: Robert Griffin III At The Mic

Quarterback Robert Griffin III’s 3rd-and-1 pass in the fourth quarter is a play still being strung out and dissected as “one of those plays” a player wish they could have back.

He does.

No. 10, however, can’t dwell on the matter. He’s facing a wealthy secondary that boasts Pro Bowl and first round talent across the board.

Griffin III explained his mindset facing a “tough team”, his leadership style, comparison to Colin Kaepernick and more.

Coach’s Turn: Mike Shanahan At The Mic

On Wednesday, Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan addressed the media following a game in which his team underwhelmed through the first three quarters and once again fired up the jets far too late into the contest.

Story of the year.

Whether it was the offense misfiring, the defense letting LeSean McCoy run amok or the special teams once again doing little to nothing to advance the pigskin, the Redskins struggled mightily against the Eagles.

Closing the chapter on the Week 11 disappointment, the Redskins face a formidable opponent dealing with a myriad of problems as well.

A top-three defense, Colin Kaepernick looks far from the quarterback that smashed playoff records and led the 49ers to the Super Bowl.

Shanahan addressed the plan to attack Kaepernick and more at his Wednesday press conference.

Alfred Morris Leads NFL In 20+ Runs

“I’m not getting complacent; complacency is death. he said emphatically. “When you get to that point where you feel like you can’t get any better, that’s when your decline is going to start. I’m trying to become a better me. I’m trying to become Alfred 2.0, Alfred 3.0, Alfred 4.0. Every day I’m trying to become better in some way.

A sophomore slump? I don’t see it happening. I’m going to bust my butt this offseason. I’ve got to get better. I can’t be satisfied with a year when, as a lot of people say, you’re only as good as your last performance.”

That was Alfred Morris in March, just two months removed from a season where he soared to the top of the franchise record books, surpassing greats like John Riggins and Clinton Portis in the process.

A sophomore who plays in a zone-blocking scheme and far outplayed expectations Year One, though? Oh yeah he’s doomed.

It was great while it lasted.

Not.

Having a chance to take over the rushing lead by week’s end, Morris has done something this season that he didn’t last—having defenses worry about the long run.

Through 11 weeks of the season, the second-year star leads the league in 20-plus-yard runs with nine.

Power Rankings Roundup: Week 12

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on November 20, 2013 – 11:55 am

Indulge in a bit of the blues with me as we let go of the Eagles sweep. Music’s good medicine.

It’s been a rough week, but the NFL machine stops for no one. Professional football players are professional compartmentalizers. The team will field a few more questions about Philadelphia today, but it can’t afford to linger. The focus at Redskins Park will shift to the team ahead, the reigning NFC champion San Francisco 49ers.

That being said, the aftermath from Philadelphia enacted a downward trend in this week’s power rankings. Read more »

November is Native American Heritage month. Throughout the month, we’ll look back at stories of interest.

Long before John Riggins became the “Diesel,” another legendary athlete from Kansas made his mark on Redskins history.

Louis “Rabbit” Weller was a Native American running back who rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns for the Boston Redskins in 1933. Read more »

POLL: Biggest Key In Tough NFC Matchup

Two teams underperforming with high expectations will be the name of the game this Monday when the San Francisco 49ers travel cross country to take on the Redskins.

Only losing four games last season, the 49ers have already matched that number through 10 games this season. They enter the primetime affair on a slide, losing two straight games to include a modern day rarity—a defensive battle 10-9 loss to the Carolina Panthers.

A lot has been made of Robert Griffin III’s production in his second season, with completion percentage down and interceptions up. The 49ers have experienced difficulty at the quarterback position as well as Colin Kaepernick has failed to replicate the magic that helped the 49ers reach their sixth Super Bowl.

The two were part of an exclusive four cover Sports Illustrated NFL preview series in August entitled “The New Kings”.

Now they are trying to salvage seasons marred in disappointment.

This week’s Redskins.com feature poll focuses on the two dual-threat quarterbacks and other keys in the Redskins getting their fourth win of the season.

Bob’s Discount Furniture Character Art

Posted by Redskins.com on November 20, 2013 – 1:00 am

BobsSlide

From clay to character, artwork comes alive.

The lively little characters that you see populating the Bob’s Discount Furniture ads are brought to you by a team of talented artists using work they’ve created through the magical art form of Stop Motion Animation.

Stop Motion is a 100-year old animation process where a puppet is posed in front of a camera and a series of picture are taken.  In between each picture the puppet is moved a fraction of an inch.  When the sequential pictures, or “frames,” are played back on film or video, the puppets come to life.

It takes 30 individual pictures to create one single second of animation!

There can be up to 40 different movements to reposition on a puppet for each frame shot.

What exactly does that mean? Read more »
