The definition of tough loss received a new entry late Thursday night when the Washington Redskins let the Minnesota Vikings, a one-win team, back in the game and then some.
Matched up against a reeling Vikings defense, Robert Griffin III looked ready to grab the crown of Mr. Thursday Night through the first half, connecting on three touchdown passes. Flashbacks to last Thanksgiving started popping up.
With Griffin III dissecting the secondary with ease, Alfred Morris powering over linebackers twice his size and Pierre Garcon taking advantage of one-on-one matchups, the offense looked destined to challenge the season-high point total of 45.
…Then the second half happened.
The defense couldn’t contain Adrian Peterson, all of a sudden Christian Ponder looked like a world-beater and they couldn’t create any turnovers.
The offense didn’t do much either until the last drive.
And I’m sure you haven’t, but don’t forget the special teams miscues too.
Anyway, head coach Mike Shanahan addressed all of these questions after the game.
