Wasn’t it great to see the guys back in burgundy and gold? Even if it was just in letter jackets, over 100 alumni scattered the sidelines before the game catching pregame warmups, reminiscing on old times, hugging former teammates who were like brothers, chatting with children who were just wee big when they were ballin’ on Sundays and so much more.
From Darrell Green to Doug Williams to Timmy Smith, several players from the Super Bowl XXII-winning team were on hand for a special halftime ceremony.
It seems like just yesterday that they were torching the Denver Broncos and having their fans looking like sad clowns. Yesterday, the larger than life figures returned.
Try telling me real men don’t cry after watching this video from their ceremony:
“On behalf of my Super Bowl XXIII teammates, I just want to say first of all thank you for allowing me to play with you,” Williams said. “I also want to say thanks to the Washington Redskins for allowing me to be a part of this organization. But I also want to say to the greatest fans in the National Football League, the Washington Redskins fans, thank you for embracing me and my teammates and allowing us to do what we was able to do in 1988.
“So I just want to say thank you to all of the guys that played for the Washington Redskins, that are playing today and going to play tomorrow. This is one of the greatest legacies in NFL history.”
Also do you see Darrell Green jumping around in the background when his teammates were introduced?
He is one of the nicest guys on the planet. Despite hordes of fans begging for an autograph and picture, Green did everything with trademarked humble grace yesterday, never complaining about being in high demand.
The definition of class.
