If you were to just look at the Redskins offense on paper, you’d think they were having a pretty fantastic year so far. They rank seventh in total yards (394.4), fifth in first downs per game (22.9) and tenth in scoring (24.7 points per game).
But then there’s the reality, an offense that really hasn’t performed very well under mammoth expectations far exceeding anything seen around here in years.
As Robert Griffin III said best in his press conference yesterday, “To me, stats and rankings and stuff like that, it doesn’t always really tell the true story in my opinion. We’ve struggled at times. We’ve been really great at times. Against Chicago, we threw the ball extremely well and ran the ball efficiently and this past week, we didn’t do that. It’s a week-to-week thing; we just need to be more consistent with it.”
Consistency starts with setting a tone in the first quarter. Outscored by 47 in the opening frame, the Redskins have to abandoned their forte, a notice trend that frustrates fans.
Anyway, Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan spoke to the media this afternoon.
