Through the first three weeks of the season, not a whole lot went right for the defense.

They struggled against the Philadelphia Eagles in Chip Kelly’s NFL debut, couldn’t stop Aaron Rodgers from doing whatever he wanted and failed to hold off the Lions in the closing minutes of a back and forth contest.

With Brandon Meriweather back though, the defense will be at full strength for only the third time this season. Jarvis Jenkins and Rob Jackson of course were out the first month of the seasons serving mandated suspensions.

The defense has been fueled by the efforts of DeAngelo Hall, playing perhaps the best football of his career, and he could be lined up against Antonio Gates.

“He has the ability to do anything,” defensive coordinator Jim Haslett said this afternoon. “We put him on big receivers; we put him on quick, faster receivers so he has the ability to do anything.”
