In It To Win It Challenge: Contrast Hot and Cold Hydrotherapy For A Full Recovery

The Washington Redskins and Health Diagnostic Laboratory, Inc. (HDL) are challenging Redskins fans to heighten their activity levels with the “In it to Win It” Challenge. Sign up here to join the rest of Redskins Nation getting fit and winning prizes including Redskins gear, Nike+ FuelBands and more.

With all the activity minutes you’ll be logging, you’ll be dealing with some soreness.

We brought in Redskins Physical Therapist and Assistant Athletic Trainer Elliott Jermyn to show you how the players use hot and cold hyrdotherapy as a tool in rest and recovery. You can apply these principles yourself using ice and heat packs.

If you want to stay in the pool, here’s a cannonball exercise from HDL for you to engage your core under water.

-In water that is chest- deep, place your back against the side of the pool
-Stretch your arms along the walls, bending your elbows to hold on to the side of the pool
-Using your core muscles, slowly raise your knees up to your chest (feel free to raise one  leg at a time)
-Repeat this 25 times and aim for 3-4 sets
