A few months back, SportsCenter ran a segment about the trend and evolution of professional and amateur athletes saying hello to their mothers in different ways (Sadly I couldn’t find the video otherwise I’d post it here).
Some would simply give words of thanks for the woman that raised them with a simple ‘Hi mom’ while others would do a little end zone dance from childhood that only mom would understand.
Football is a game marked by physicality and aggression, so it might seem odd that they’d dedicate their play to the same woman who continually preached against similar actions. But then again in a controlled environment and an understanding of their child’s love of the game, it passes.
Wide receiver Pierre Garcon like many of his teammates sported a pink mouth guard in honor of the team’s annual Breast Cancer Awareness game. Leaving his menacing fanged mouth guard in his spotless locker that his mother would be proud of; he used his protector for a simple yet meaning message that was captured during his riveting pregame introduction.
It’s certainly a much better way of getting mom’s attention than this:
