Wilson Raises Money With Mom In Mind

This story is from much earlier this week, but couldn’t be told without the addition of photos from the event. Even the epic shot of skeptical Josh.

Most Saturdays during the NFL season, members of the Washington Redskins are required to be in their hotel rooms by 11 p.m. sharp for curfew. The notable exception comes on bye week, when the players can stay out as late as they want.

Cornerback Josh Wilson did just that.

Last Saturday was the annual Light The Night Walk at the Reston Town Center, where participants raise money and walk to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and Wilson was there with his family to support the cause.

It was a fitting family experience for Wilson, considering it was family that raised cancer to his attention. It all started with a family gathering in the Outer Banks a few summers ago.

“We were walking on the beach and my mom told me, ‘I cant walk anymore,'” he remembered. “She said, ‘Josh I got to sit down.’

Josh left his mom on the beach and sprinted two miles back to the beach house to get the car and take her to the hospital. Read more »

Moss: ‘Always Something More’ Vs. DAL

No matter the season, Washington Redskins-Dallas Cowboys is always the most circled matchup of the year.

Dating back to 1960, the two storied franchises have met 106 times with a handful of those games coming with NFC East and playoff positioning on the line.

Since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, the Redskins and Cowboys have finished one-two in the division nine times, most notably 1973 when both finished 10-4 and 1983 when they had the two best records.

From 1997 to 2011 though, the rivalry lost luster as the Cowboys won 20 of 30 meetings including 10 in a row at one point.

While there were some bright spots from the Redskins end such as the “Monday Night Miracle” and 2006’s blocked Cowboys field goal turned Redskins game-winning field goal, the Cowboys dominated.

But with a 28 points outburst in the second quarter of a nationally televised game and a Week 17 do-or-die matchup last season, the rivalry entered a renaissance just like that.

Enemy Storylines–Cowboys Edition

There is nothing quite like Cowboys Week around Redskins Park. Refreshed by time away, the players have been vocal about their feelings of archrival Dallas Cowboys.

With extra incentive of a possible tie for the NFC East lead at stake, the players are exuding a confidence that isn’t normally associated with a 1-3 team.

Dallas, coming off a week where they gave their best left hook to Peyton Manning but still fell short, is known for being enigmatic. One week they look like world beaters and the next they look like they couldn’t even hang with any of the local high schools.

Anyway, with Sunday’s Jerry World-sized matchup looming, here are some storylines that national and local Dallas media are following:

Babe Laufenberg And The Giggling Marlin

Posted by Stephen Czarda on October 11, 2013 – 12:00 pm

Eddie LeBaron. Ray Schoenke. Deion Sanders. Stephen Bowen.

It doesn’t happen very often, but there’s the occasional player that crosses enemy lines between the Redskins and Cowboys.

While Bowen may be the most recent player to trade allegiance and make the right decision to sport burgundy and gold, ignoring the Dallas boo birds in the process, his signing in 2011 was about as normal as it gets.

He talked with Redskins brass, weighed his options and signed on the dotted line.

For former Redskins/Cowboys quarter Babe Laufenberg though, his third time signing with the team can be chalked up in one simple word: unique.

Perry Riley Jr. Talks Father, Future

Linebacker Perry Riley Jr. opened up to ESPN’s John Keim about a number of issues including changing the nameplate on his jersey, his basketball potential and his future position in a Friday Conversation segment.

An ascendant player, Riley Jr. started all 16 games for the first time in his career last season, ranking second on the team with 129 tackles in 2012. He’s on a pace to surpass that mark with a team-high 38 stops through four games.

With Keim, Riley Jr. talked about honoring his father by affixing the extra “Jr.” to his jersey. The linebacker had discussed the thought with his father before, but he didn’t tell his dad his plans. Instead, Riley Jr. waited for his father to see the change on TV against the Eagles.

“My mom said he cried… It caught him by surprise and my mom said he got emotional. That made me happy,” Riley said to Keim.

Redskins Scoring History Vs. Dallas

Posted by Stephen Czarda on October 11, 2013 – 10:10 am

Alfred Morris, Robert Griffin III

Remember last year’s 38 point outburst against the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day?

Yeah—silly question of me to ask. Of course you do!

Propelled by four second quarter touchdowns in only 19 plays (the only time I can remember such an outburst is Super Bowl XXII) the Redskins made AT&T Stadium their own personal practice facility. Thanks Dallas for allowing the fans in to see it go down—and chant ‘R-G-3’.

Anyway, as is the case every week, Redskins.com is asking you how many points YOU think the Redskins will score this weekend.

Before submitting your vote check out these awesome stats on the scoring history vs. the enemy:

You might be asking yourself, is this guy luring us to a football blog with puppies? Yes. Yes I am.

Look at that face. You can thank long snapper Nick Sundberg, his love for animals and his iron stomach for that photo to power you through the work week.

Last Sunday, during the bye week, Sundberg attended the WOOFSTOCK pet festival in Ashburn with Josh Morgan and Larry Michael in support of community animal shelters.

There he found Pistachio, a beagle pug mix.
