While you might seem them on the sidelines on gamedays at FedExField, the Washington Redskins Cheerleaders’ reach extends well beyond the field.
Rookie Ashley E. and second-year Allison give a sneak peak at their off the field commitments to WRC.
Allison: When we aren’t rehearsing or on the sidelines cheering on our beloved Redskins, you can find the WRC out and about in the community at a variety of promotional events. Each girl is required to attend events throughout the season and during the off-season; these events are some of the most entertaining and rewarding experiences we have off the field. There’s no such thing as a typical promo for us, as I have attended Redskins viewing parties at local bars/restaurants, corporate holiday parties, and even recently surprised a boy for his Bar Mitzvah celebration. We often work with charitable groups and sponsors including Wounded Warriors and the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Fuel Up To Play 60, and the Yellow Ribbon Fund. We travel near and far to meet and mingle with Skins fans, so keep checking our website for updates on where we will be next!
Ashley E: On September 8, Allison and I had the honor of partnering with Blackfinn American Saloon for their 2nd Annual Cheers & Charity Fundraiser, to benefit The Yellow Ribbon Fund (YRF). YRF is a Bethesda-based charity that was founded in 2005. Their mission is to help injured service members and their families while the service member is recovering from battle-sustained injuries at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Fort Belvoir Community Hospital. YRF provides everything from clothes and meals to airline tickets for loved ones to be near at no charge. They also set up various events and trips designed to help veterans and their families enjoy the community. During our time at Blackfinn, we were able to speak with numerous patrons about the importance of care for our wounded veterans, while sharing The Yellow Ribbon Fund mission. Several made donations and some even volunteered their service. We look forward to working with YRF in the future!
