It isn’t a mystery that the defense’s performance through the first three weeks was disappointing, especially against the pass.

Michael Vick, Aaron Rodgers and Matthew Stafford all got off to quick starts and managed to get enough first down movers, successful third down conversions and ultimately touchdowns to keep the defense on the field. Winded, the defense struggled to find success until the second half.

Then Week 4 happened.

They corralled Oakland Raiders quarterback Matt Flynn all day long, slamming him into the O.co Coliseum dirt, having him wish that his usual spot on the bench was vacated—by him.

With the front-seven overpowering the Raiders, the defense surrendered only one touchdown.

Brian Orakpo (O-rak-po) talked about another shining performance in the Black Hole and had an interesting sound bite on his partnership with Ryan Kerrigan.

With one last responsibility before the Bye Week kicked into full gear, Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan addressed the media this afternoon with a pretty big smile on his face.

Why you might ask?

Well the answer is simple. After serving four-game suspensions defensive end Jarvis Jenkins and outside linebacker Rob Jackson are back on the active squad.

Missed but teammates and Redskins fans alike, the duo had career years last season and will assuredly provide quality to a defense that is steadily improving by the week.

Anyway, Shanahan talked about their conditioning level, gave health updates on three of the tight ends along with Chris Neild and touched on Leonard Hankerson’s obvious progression through the first quarter of the season.

As always, Redskins Twitter (@Redskins) was there to ask the hardest hitting questions with the first being why is it so hot in October.

In a 14-point hole after the first quarter Sunday, power ranking constructers were getting ready to claim doomsday upon on the Washington Redskins. Already seeing a stark decline since Week 1, the Redskins could have and very well might have dropped to last in power rankings.

Did you hear that collective sound shortly after Roy Helu Jr.’s 14-yard touchdown run? It was the backspace button being forcefully pounded on as all that’s bad of the Redskins season was quickly erased with a comeback victory.

While the Redskins can breathe a little easier during the Bye Week, they still find themselves far from where they were to start the season.

Here’s this week’s power rankings roundup starting with ESPN:

In the only stat that has any meaning to the 53-man roster, the Redskins finally got that first victory of the season as we are now in the Bye Week. Smiles and high-fives were given all around upon their return bright—actually it was pitch dark still—and early yesterday morning.

It was a collective team effort to get that anvil of their toes, but there were a few individual performances of note.

Each Tuesday, Redskins Blog will keep you up-to-date on how each player is doing individually in certain categories and where that places them in league rank.

Similar to leading the offense in the huddle, we trot this week’s update out with quarterback Robert Griffin III leading the way (NFL rank in parenthesis—no not these, the ones below):
