Desperation may not be associated with a Week 4 game pitting teams from the AFC West and NFC East against one another very often, but today’s game is a must-win for the Washington Redskins.

Entering the season, the Redskins were showered with high remarks and a second-straight playoff berth seemed to be a lock. After all, this is the same team that is returning 21 of 22 starters from a season ago and others such as wide receiver Santana Moss remained in place.

Three games in however, and the team has put itself in a similar predicament as last season–three games below .500, last place in the division and naysayers feasting on the struggles. Turning the ship around though, starts today. With the Bye Week looming, the momentum carried over from a win could reap serious benefits in the long run. The first game after the Bye Week is at Dallas.

Before we get there though, they must beat Oakland today.

Here’s play-by-play of all that happened in the first quarter:

If the fan prediction holds correct, then the Washington Redskins will score at least 20 points in the eighth straight game today. It would be the longest streak for the burgundy and gold since 1998.

For those of you who call northern Nevada, Greensboro, North Carolina or Inez, Kentucky home, stay in your PJs because there is no need to leave your house to watch this afternoon’s game.

Fox released the viewing map of this afternoon’s slate of games and while the Broncos and Eagles will be seen by most, not everyone will be subjected to watching the Eagles again.

Redskins Twitterverse, we need your help! The social showdown is back and we need the best fans in the world to show their support for the burgundy and gold.

Throughout today’s game, use #HTTR to not only show your support for the boys in burgundy and gold as they try to get their first win of the season, but to show your collective social might. At the time I took this picture (12:05pm EST) we were trailing 65 percent to 35.

That won’t last though.

Sunlight And The Black Hole Can Coexist

It doesn’t make a difference if you’re in Washington, D.C. or the Black Hole to know that fall is officially here.

For now it’s a fairly cloudy morning in the Bay Area, but the sun should peak through the thick layer of clouds and sea of black periodically.

Current forecast calls for a kickoff temperature of 72 degrees with light winds and a whole lot of Raiders fans that will be going home disappointed.

Here’s a complete weather outlook for the afternoon tilt courtesy of the guys and gals at Weather.com:

VOTE: Who Leads Team Vs. Oakland?

Each game day, Redskins Blog asks you who YOU think will lead the team and I must admit it’s one of the most difficult pregame choices to make.

With Pro Bowlers on both sides of the pigskin, guys like Leonard Hankerson having fantastic individual performances and rookies that could easily break out for the best performance of their fledgling careers, only selecting five guys is a challenge.

Robert Griffin III has improved each week and showed flashes of fluidity similar to last season. Could California be friendly to him today? What about Alfred Morris? He said earlier this week that he doesn’t care about the number of carries he gets, but if he gets lets say 30, then that means the offense gained balance again after throwing 50 passes against the Lions. And more importantly, they’ll be in the game until the very end.

On the defensive side of the ball, can Brian Orakpo successfully replicate his four sack performance the last time he was in the Bay?

Anyway, here are your choices:

VOTE: Which Unit Shines Vs. Oakland?

Our West Coast fans are getting a special treat this afternoon as they won’t be waking up well before they want to on sleep in Sunday. For our East Coast fans and you DMV locals, enjoy the beautiful weather outside—all while keeping it locked to the Redskins Blog on your smart phone. You see while raking those first leaves that have fallen is cool—I guess—wouldn’t you rather want the most up to the minute pregame news on all things Redskins before their duel with the Raiders?

If there were ever a day or an opportunity to right this ship that’s been steered far of course, today is the day. The Raiders (1-2) have far less offensive power than either of the Packers or Lions and don’t have a gimmicky, no-huddle offense to fall back on either.

Having said that, the team isn’t becoming complacent and neither I am. As always we want to know who YOU think will have the best collective performance this afternoon.

Here are your choices:

Redskins-Raiders: Experts Pick ‘Em

Posted by Stephen Czarda on September 28, 2013 – 1:42 pm

(AP Image)

For the first time since the Monday Night Football season opener, the Washington Redskins enter a game as favorites. Even after a 2,000 mile plus trek to an address coming up blank on the GPS, the black hole, the Redskins are the trendy pick.

The Redskins (0-3) will play the Oakland Raiders (1-2) for the first time in four years. Rarely seeing in each other in action, the NFC East and AFC West are playing one another this year with the Raiders being the first opponent on the schedule.

The biggest query remaining is whether or not quarterback Terrelle Pryor will play tomorrow and if he can’t, how effective will Matt Flynn be? After losing two straight quarterback battles, Flynn could make his first start since setting—and now sharing with Aaron Rodgers after Week 2—the Green Bay Packers single game record for passing yards.

Anyway, what isn’t in question is the majority of experts placing their confidence in the burgundy and gold again even at 0-3.

ESPN, you’re up first.
