Down 14-0 it seemed like déjà vu all over again and just like the players had said during interviews, there’s no pinpointable culprit behind the early woes.
The first week it was the defense, the second was the offense and last week it was turnovers and costly penalties. Two drives into Week 4 and it was the special teams unit who allowed Raiders running back Rashad Jennings to burst through the middle of the line and block Sav Rocca’s punt only to be recovered in the end zone for a touchdown.
Then, early in the second quarter they made it 14-0 on a Mychal Rivera touchdown reception. It was a fork in the road moment for the 2013 Redskins. The team could have packed it in and thrown in the white flag effectively admitting early defeat on the young season or get off the snide and fight back.
End result—Redskins win 24-14.
Head coach Mike Shanahan addressed the media shortly after the first victory of the season and said he was pleased with the way his team fought back.
