During Saturday’s victory over the Buffalo Bills, you might have spotted a collection of rabid, female Washington Redskins fans across the stadium, most notably on the field and along the party decks.
It wasn’t just any group of women—it was the Women of Washington Takeover presented by Toyota.
WOW is the official women’s fan club of the Washington Redskins and gives millions the opportunity to be joined together, not only as female fans of a historic franchise, but to give them a forum to stay connected and improve their overall well-being.
While they have participated in chalk talks with high ranking team personnel like head coach Mike Shanahan and were treated to an exclusive full-body, Ninja Workout hosted by renowned personal trainer Ary Nunez, there’s nothing quite like attending a game with the largest women’s club in the National Football League.
The day started with the WOW Pregame Party, where members and their guests were treated to delicious food, encountered women whose passion for the team was just as strong as theirs, had the opportunity to met Tanya Snyder, wife of Redskins’ owner Daniel M. Snyder and founder of WOW, and got a free t-shirt all in the process.
At three o’clock, members played Let’s Make a Deal: Redskins Edition where they were asked to be the first to present Redskins paraphernalia. Winners then won various prizes ranging from t-shirts and rally towels.
For a lucky few though, the most memorable moment came when they were on the field at the same time Alfred Morris, Ryan Kerrigan and Trent Williams stepped onto the field in full gear with fireworks lighting up the stadium.
Over 1,000 women came to the game, one of which Tina Sineath who made the trip up from South Carolina.
“I’ve been a member since January,” Sineath said with a smile on her face as she and her husband knew that the best place to celebrate their anniversary was at FedExField. “WOW has been absolutely amazing. I was researching how I could more involved with the Redskins and I saw WOW and I thought ‘I have to do this.’
“I wish it was around when I was growing up, but now with my 14-year old daughter who eats, sleeps and breathes the Redskins like me, I called her crying when I found out I was coming and she was crying on the other end because I was telling her my whole experience. It really is an amazing experience. I couldn’t be more happy to be a member of WOW.”
