Today’s video series ends with a look at the running backs. With Alfred Morris not playing any of the first preseason game, Roy Helu Jr. and Evan Royster took a bulk of the carries. While it was great to see both backs looking true to form, it was especially pleasing to see Helu Jr. cutting with precision again after having his 2012 campaign cut short due to lower body injuries.
Against the Titans, Helu Jr. recorded 13 carries for 57 yards. A handful of those carries came on toss plays and as you’ll see at the 2:15 mark of this video, he’s been practicing his steps:
Not only does Helu Jr.’s return to the lineup bolster an already fantastic running attack, but he can contribute at any given moment on the passing game. While Alfred Morris proved that he can handle a 30 plus carry load if needed, he only recorded 11 catches last season.
Helu Jr., on the otherside, record 14–in one game against the San Francisco 49ers in 2011.
Just food for thought.
