For fans of both the Washington Redskins and NASCAR, the best of both worlds will be colliding on Friday, September 6th at Richmond International Raceway.
Larry Michael, Voice of the Washington Redskins, will be the Grand Marshal of the Virginia529 Nationwide Series race. Michael, who hosts a variety of television shows from Redskins Nation to Mike Shanahan Coach’s Show along with radio play-by-play duties for all Redskins games, is one of the best in the industry.
From calling countless Redskins moments that will stand the test of time to his now famous response to Robert Griffin III’s 76-yard touchdown scamper against the Vikings (Electrifying!), Michael will be calling the four most famed words in motorsports: “Gentleman, start your engines”.
Similar to the NFL, NASCAR has a playoff system in place where the last 10 races of the season determine which driver wins The Chase for the Cup. With Richmond being the last race where you can gain eligibility for The Chase, sparks will be flyin’ well into the night sky all weekend long.
While the Nationwide Series itself doesn’t have a playoff format (The Chase is for the Sprint Series), some of NASCAR’s biggest names will be on hand to get reaccustomed with the track. They, like everyone else, will get to hear Michael being the one to get the engines roarin’.
Michael, who is an admitted NASCAR fan, said he is honored to be the Grand Marshal of the annual race.
“I’m a big, big NASCAR fan,” said Michael. “To be asked to be the Grand Marshal is something special for me and I’m really looking forward to it.”
Tickets are currently going fast so make sure to get yours while they last! Please visit Richmond International Raceway’s website for more details.
