For the majority of training camp so far, the Redskins Blog has shown you how the running backs look in the passing game through various one-on-one drills. Well today, isn’t about their incorporation in the aerial attack–it’s about pounding the rock.

While Alfred Morris soaked up a majority of the load last season, the Redskins have some depth heading into 2013 that includes the return of Roy Helu Jr. and the additions of Jawan Jamison and Chris Thompson.

Thompson, who’s returning from an injury-shortened final season at Florida State University, showed off his 4.4 speed and elusiveness in front of a large crowd who could care less that the ground is still soaked.

If there is one player on the offense that doesn’t get the credit that he deserves, it’s Josh Morgan. After signing here last March, the former Virginia Tech star recorded 48 receptions for 510 yards and two touchdowns in 16 games.

Despite dealing with excruciating pain in both his hands and his feet, Morgan persevered down the stretch and was a key in the Redskins’ Week 16 win over the Eagles.

In individual drills earlier today, Morgan showed what he is capable of when healthy with a smooth one-handed grab.

VIDEO: Intense Ryan Kerrigan Wants Ball

Posted by Stephen Czarda on August 6, 2013 – 4:00 pm

kerrigan story

With this morning’s practice session moved to an indoor location due to heavy rains overnight and the first gameday a little over 48 hours away, the Washington Redskins are getting in their last preparations before shipping out to Tennessee for a bout with the Titans.

Entering his third season, Ryan Kerrigan has a lot to prove.

Not only is he a former first round pick, but the Pro Bowler has notched an interception return for a touchdown in each of his first two seasons.

He’s already set himself a pretty high standard, but if his intensity at the :06 mark is any indicator of future performance, those of you in the bottom row at FedExField better watch out.

Quick Byte From Redskins Training Camp

Posted by Stephen Czarda on August 6, 2013 – 1:47 pm

Well Redskins fans, after dodging rain during training camp or at the very least close enough to a practice session, we had our first weather related move.

Thanks to a pretty heavy band of thunderstorms that rolled through the Richmond area in the early hours of the morning, practice was transferred to an undisclosed location in the city.

The afternoon practice, however, is schedule to go on as planned at 3:20pm.

For those of you who are worried about any additional downpours in the coming hours, Redskins.com’s Brian Tinsman has the lowdown on a few Redskins raingear items that you can get during your arrival later this afternoon.

Young Riggins Wanted To Be A Trucker

Posted by Brian Tinsman on August 6, 2013 – 1:09 pm

Riggo21

Twenty-eight years after his retirement, John Riggins remains the standard on rushing excellence for the Washington Redskins.

Besides being a larger-than-life personality, Riggins was a larger-than-life player, a 6-2, 230-pound bruiser appropriately nicknamed “Diesel.”

It turns out that that nickname likely would have been fitting regardless of his line of work, considering he really wanted to be a truck driver growing up in Centralia, Kan. Read more »

Traffic Spawns Aldrick Robinson Selfies

Aldrick Robinson could very well be the fastest player on the Washington Redskins roster right now. Nothing showcased his speed more than the Thanksgiving crushing of the Dallas Cowboys last season.

In the second quarter, Robinson burned the Cowboys secondary for a 68-yard touchdown scamper followed by a dance that he was hoping would become a YouTube sensation but has yet to be seen again—anywhere.

Nothing also shows his disapproval for Northern Virginia’s traffic more than his Instagram account (aldrickrobinson).

Besides what better place to snap a selfie than in gridlocked traffic?

With a number of Redskins players (including one franchise quarterback) recovering from leg injuries this preseason, the Redskins elected to move morning walkthrough out of the elements today, not wanting to unnecessarily risk player health on the eve of the first preseason game.

But that’s not to say that head coach Mike Shanahan has players relaxing.

Putting players back on the bus, the team traveled to an undisclosed location in the Richmond area and continued preparing for the Tennessee Titans.

With expectations rising on the 2013 season, there’s no way this team is going to skip an opportunity to prepare. Take a sneak peek at their hard work below:

When right tackle Tyler Polumbus re-signed with the Washington Redskins in March, he admitted that he had some unfinished business here.

A starter for all 16 games last season en route to paving the way for the league’s top rushing attack, Polumbus has vowed to dedicate this season to Scoring for Good, a program designed to provide children the opportunity to attend Camp Kessem.

Camp Kessum’s mission is to “provide children affected by a parent’s cancer with a supportive, lifelong camp community that recognizes and understands their unique needs” and has various sites set up across the country.

For every five pancake blocks that he will score this season, Polumbus will donate money to Scoring for Good.

While fans probably won’t be able to contribute via pancake blocks, they can track Polumbus’ progress all season long and donate along the way as well.

The purchase of your first car is one of the many stepping stones towards independence from your parents. While not always the greatest vehicle, it means the days of waiting around for them to get back from work to go out are long gone.

It’s rare these days to hear of a 1990 Mazda getting so much attention in a world driven by the latest and greatest, but Alfred Morris’ ‘Bentley’ is the most famous car in an NFL parking lot.

While ‘Bentley’ is currently back in Northern Virginia getting a slight renovation to ensure a few more years of life, the same can’t be said for Santana Moss’ first which is bought in an auction his sophomore year of college.
