As we found out last year, preseason rankings are pointless. They are just attempts to move the needle and get the masses hyped for another season.
While we don’t want to put any emphasis on them (except for when we asked you what your predictions are for the 2013 season because you know this team like the back of your hand), one ESPN personality picked the Washington Redskins to finish eighth—in the NFC.
Since only six teams making the playoffs from each conference, that would eliminate the Redskins from back-to-back postseason appearances.
Outrageous as it may be, here’s Colin Cowherd’s own conference rankings:
NFC rank 1.Sea 2 SF 3 GB 4 Saints (dice roll) 5 Atl 6 Dallas 7 NYG 8 Wash. Rams/Panthers very close. Bears a team I can't figure out—

The Seahawks, 49ers and Packers have all been linked to the top of the conference since the first rankings came out in March, but so have the Redskins.
You might ask why they are so low in Cowherd’s book—to that I don’t have the answer. Nor do I know why the Cowboys and Giants are ranked ahead of them.
Perhaps he gathered information from last year’s preseason publications or maybe is considering the recent trend of NFC East teams failing to repeat.
Training camp runs until August 16th, Colin, so I say come out here and have a look at them yourself.
