Many professional athletes, especially those in the NFL, consider themselves fashion connoisseurs, both on, and off the field.

Off the field, players flaunt expensive suits, sneakers and jewelry, and on the field, they sport bright cleats, glossy visors and one-of-a-kind facemasks.

But the latest trend at Redskins training camp is something a bit more simplistic, and much less flashy.

May I present to you the Redskins New Era Training Bucket.

A Very Special Walkthrough

Posted by Evan Redmon on July 31, 2013 – 12:03 pm

The focus shifted to special teams at this morning’s walkthrough, at least on field No. 1.

Practice started out with a series of kickoff drills, and the coaches presented the players with a variety of scenarios. First came the onside kick drill, followed by medium or “squib kick” coverage, and then the coaches got involved in the blocking schemes on full kickoffs. Read more »

In the 2008 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins selected tight end Fred Davis (48th overall) out of USC.

Through his first five seasons, Davis has accumulated 155 receptions for 1,973 yards, 325 of which came during an injury-shortened 2012 campaign.

Now fully healthy once again, Davis stepped to the podium and fielded questions from local and national media outlets.

Here’s what his responses were:

VIDEO: Pierre Garcon’s Google+ Hangout

Posted by Stephen Czarda on July 31, 2013 – 9:55 am

Capture

You’re not going to be able to stop Washington Redskins wide receiver Pierre Garcon.

If you’re even going to try halt his pursuit, chances are he’ll either elude your helpless attempt to contain him or catch flashes of his fanged mouth guard as he looks back at you while galloping into the end zone.

Luckily though, Garcon decided to relax the jets for one night and chatted with eight Redskins fans on the team’s Google+ Hangout series.

Here’s what they asked:

Griffin III Makes Artist’s Dream A Reality

Posted by Stephen Czarda on July 31, 2013 – 9:18 am

Yesterday, there were two Robert Griffin III’s at training camp. That isn’t some sort of typo or a joke.

One was on the field working with the offense during seven-on-seven drills and sporting the ever-so-popular training bucket hat with his gold practice jersey. The other was in another packed crowd with Richmond natives Jonathan Hirsch, Kyle Peterson and David Zelman.

Hirsch, who’s had to battle his father’s New York Giants fandom over the years, has been a lifelong Redskins fan with a “very serious” picturesque painting hobby on the side.

The end result is a beautiful portrait of the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year now signed by the real Robert Griffin III.

We are  getting into the meat of training camp here in Richmond, as the guys have really started to show game level like intensity in seven-on-seven and 11-on-11 drills.

Their ferocity has really made up for the cooler than average temperatures, not that anyone is complaining. Can training camp always be like this, please?

Anyway, on to the real news. Here’s what’s been going on throughout the afternoon practice session courtesy of the Redskins’ Twitter account (@Redskins).

Any drills that involve back of the end zone, gravity defying touchdown grabs always get the crowd’s blood pumping.

Yesterday, quarterback Robert Griffin III praised wide receiver Aldrick Robinson’s play so far during training camp.

He and Santana Moss are the two smallest receivers on the team, but use their athleticism to get the best of opposing secondaries.

The two also kicked off this segment of individual drills.
