RICHMOND, VA — Football is back! The Redskins had their first morning walk through of the 2013 training camp this morning. The newly constructed Bon Secours Redskins Training Camp facility was on beautiful display as legions of fans rushed onto the viewing berm to see their favorite stars in person for the first time this summer.
It couldn’t have gotten off to a better start. The weather was unseasonably cool and breezy and the players were all (well, mostly) healthy and anxious to get out on the field. Practice started out with a few basic offensive and special teams formations where all four quarterbacks — Robert Griffin III, Kirk Cousins, Rex Grossman and Pat White — took turns getting snaps with various offensive personnel. Griffin was wearing his now ubiquitous bulky knee brace but nonetheless looked agile and fluid in his motions.
Later today, Alfred Morris will be the featured player at the podium, as Griffin completed his customary presser yesterday.
Rookie defensive backs David Amerson and Bacarri Rambo practiced with the first team defense, partly because Josh Wilson is a little dinged up, and partly because I’m sure the Redskins want to see what they’ve got with these guys. It’s a good, early sign that the coaching staff had the confidence to put those guys out there right from the get-go. This will be a good training camp matchup to watch: Amerson vs. Pierre Garcon and Santana Moss.
If he can stay with those guys already, that bodes well for the Redskins going forward.
