Darrel Young’s Unusual Pregame Tune

If you’re like me, you have to listen to music on your way to work in the mornings or during a workout to get pumped up for the day.

NFL players, of course, are no different when they are getting ready for game days. You’ve seen them stroll into stadiums across the country with headphones on jamming out to some sort of song before the day’s work.

Ask around and most would prefer music with heavy bass that can get that adrenaline pumping before the start of each contest. Maybe it’s one of diehard Washington Redskins fan Wale’s billboard toppers or some old school rock like ACDC or Kiss.

For fullback Darrel Young, though, his game day is–let’s just say unorthodox.

On the field, Young is the quintessential lead blocker for Mike Shanahan’s zone-blocking run scheme. Away from the gridiron—well the former Villanova star is one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet.

In the current Meet the Redskins series Young gave a riveting karaoke rendition of Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the USA”, his favorite pregame song.

While I never considered the pop star/Hannah Montana’s alter ego/paparazzi magnet’s tune to ever have anything remotely close to do with football, the 5-11, 251 pound had me rethinking as the lyrics actually do mesh with pregame feelings.

Enjoy having the 2009 summer hit stuck in your head once again—it’ll make DY proud.
