TKO Gave Kids ‘Amazing’ Recess Day

Last Thursday Tyler’s Kids Outreach (TKO) and the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation teamed up to give a group of local kids the chance to hang out at Redskins Park and spend the day with some of the players for “Extreme Recess”.

TKO was created by offensive lineman Tyler Polumbus and wife Liz to “enrich the lives of children through family, faith and personal growth.”

While dark clouds blanketed the skies throughout the duration of the recess, the gloomy conditions didn’t stop the kids from having the time of their lives with the Washington Redskins.

Redskins.com intern Chris DeLisi shares an interesting tidbit about Redskins NT Barry Cofield.

Over the course of the last two seasons, the Washington Redskins have seen three quarterbacks take the field, five different running backs record a carry, and multiple safeties cracking the starting lineup.

Despite the multitude of changes on a team in transition, one thing has remained the same: nose tackle Barry Cofield anchoring the center of Jim Haslett’s 3-4 defense.

While Cofield didn’t have the opportunity to dig his toes (or should I say hands) in the sands of Hawaii at this year’s Pro Bowl,  he can claim what no other defense lineman can–being the best nose tackle in the business.

In what has become the norm for this year’s version of the virtual football experience, Robert Griffin III and the Redskins were heavily featured in the game’s first two promotional packages with No. 10 taking long touchdown runs to the house against fellow NFC division winners Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers.

While Griffin III got the brunt of the attention everyone seemingly forgot about Alfred Morris yet again.

Sure all of Morris’ end zone trips last year came courtesy of pounding the rock on the ground, but that doesn’t mean that he can’t get the job done in the passing game.

Redskins Nation—here is your first glimpse at Morris’ first NFL receiving touchdown and the debut of his video game homerun celebration.

10 Best NFL Debuts Ever Features No. 10

A few weeks back ESPN’s Mike Sando conducted a study on the average age of starters for each team entering the 2013 season and while the Redskins starting 11 on defense ranks as the second oldest (only the Steelers D can claim to be more “seasoned”) the offense’s 11 is filled with young, talented players.

Last year the rookie duo of Robert Griffin III (then 22) and Alfred Morris ( then 24) where not only a reason why the burgundy and gold’s average starter age dropped, but of course bringing our Nation’s Capital its first NFC East title since 1999 as well.

With Major League Baseball currently seeing a surge in production from highly touted, first year players, NFL.com has piggybacked off their record numbers to bring to light some of the greatest debuts in league history.

While some on the list go as far back as when the world was black and white, we all know what colors Griffin III wore last year.
