For anyone that has kept tabs on the blog during the slowest days of the NFL calendar, you have seen that’s top 100 plays from 2012 has been jam-packed with the Redskins.

The first three cameos made by Washington involved Robert Griffin III showcasing his bravery in battle (not afraid to throw the ball in the air to a “small” receiver in Santana Moss for example) while Ryan Kerrigan snatched a spot on the list with one of Matt Ryan’s three touchdown passes on the day.

Then to celebrate the Redskins’ fifth spot on the list was DC’s favorite celebration—“Griffining”.

While No. 10 certainly deserves his own top plays list, backup Kirk Cousins made sure that the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year wasn’t the only first year pro to make some noise.

Week after week last season, 2012 NFL Draft No. 2 overall selection Robert Griffin III picked apart defenses with his arm (20 touchdowns to five interceptions). Then as soon as he had opposing defensive backs sitting on their heels worried about his accuracy, he would dash past them for incredible runs like this 76-yard touchdown (which will never get old).

His presence alone last year helped the Redskins win their first division crown for the first time since 1999 and for some of you out there he may have finally gotten you out of the pits of your fantasy football league.

No. 10 finished with the fifth most fantasy points for quarterbacks last season with 317.50.

Now he and his backfield partner Alfred Morris (another top-five fantasy guy at his position) are being asked if they are the “real deal”.

Last Thursday Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan cancelled the scheduled final day of minicamp and gave his players an extra day of “summer vacation”.

Not every player, though.

For rookies Bacarri Rambo and Phillip Thomas—well they started off their first day away from organized team activities chatting with a handful of local media members and one lucky fan about their experiences not only since being drafted two months ago, but they’re backgrounds beyond the Washington Redskins.

For any rookie it is a dream come true to be drafted into the National Football League, but when you’re selected by your favorite team it’s a whole different ballgame.

Despite growing up thousands of miles away in Fresno, California, Thomas was a diehard burgundy and gold fan.

Redskins Social Media Weekly Spotlight

Posted by Stephen Czarda on June 17, 2013 – 1:03 pm

This week’s Social Media Spotlight is presented by social media intern Jared Ross.

We check in this week from a very quiet Redskins Park. The players and coaches have finished up mandatory minicamp and have headed home until the start of training camp.

In last week’s Social Media Spotlight, we discussed tight end Niles Paul’s new facial hair, linebacker Will Compton’s throwback to 2006, a motivational message from running back Chris Thompson, and more. If you missed it, feel free to go back and read it here (link).

While the players have scattered to their own destinations for the next six weeks, this week’s Social Media Spotlight will bring the guys back together again even if it’s through your computer screen.

Included in this week’s edition is defensive lineman Chris Baker’s funny photo compilation of his teammates, wide receiver Pierre Garcon’s donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, fullback Eric Kettani’s move into active duty, quarterback Robert Griffin III’s #TBT (Throwback Thursday) picture, and offensive lineman Adam Gettis’ new interest.
