As the Redskins Monday Night Football opener inches ever so closer to commence the start of the 2013 season, a delayed saga between two of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in NFL history may finally take place.
The highly anticipated Robert Griffin III-Michael Vick showdown was supposed to tear the house down last year as the two were going to trade highlight reel plays—except that never happened.
Instead, Vick had a front row seat on the sidelines to watch the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year gash Philly’s defense to the tune of 486 yards, six touchdowns, and two wins en route to an NFC East title.
No matter what stats Griffin III puts up, Vick boasts that he can beat him in one category: speed.
In an interview with the Dan Patrick Show Vick said that he is still king of the 40-yard dash even at his “advanced” age in comparison to Griffin III, Russell Wilson, Colin Kaepernick, and Cam Newton.
“These guys are young and they’re fast and they’re quick—the thing I do have is a very quick get-up. I really don’t feel like there’s a quarterback in the league who can beat me in a 40-yard dash.”
While Vick did post a 4.33 40 at the 2001 NFL Scouting Combine to Griffin III’s 4.41, No. 10 did something that No. 7 has never done—record a 76-yard touchdown run.
Still the former Virginia Tech star’s confidence is at an all-time high.
“If somebody wants to set something up, I’ll be more than glad to accept the challenge. But as of right now I’m going to say me. But Colin Kaepernick is fast and RG3 is fast as well.”
While Griffin III would certainly love to join Vick as the only signal callers in NFL history to eclipse the 1,000 yard mark on the ground, he has his sights set on a bigger crown: a Lombardi Trophy.
Hail to the Redskins!
