Best Redskins Rivalry: How YOU Voted

Posted by Chris Herting on May 16, 2013 – 10:49 am

The Redskins have a storied history consisting of big games, historic victories, nail biting finishes and heart-rending losses. Couple those raw emotions with the competitive nature of the NFC East and division rivalries are abounding for the team from the Nation’s Capital.

We even failed to mention our purple neighbors to the North.

Yesterday, the blog touched on Russell Baxter’s (of Bleacher Report) ‘12 Best Rivalries in the NFL Today’ who ranked the Redskins-Dallas rivalry his No. 5 rivalry in the NFL.

So we decided to pose the question, ‘Who do you think is the Redskins biggest rival?’ Well, what it all boiled down to is a consensus animosity for the long-time ‘thorn in our side’ Dallas Cowboys.

Here’s how you all voted (complete results):

In 2012, the Redskins were on the better side of victory claiming a 5-1 record in the division and 2-0 against the Cowboys, those records excluding a thrilling 31-28 OT victory over the cross-state rival and Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens.

While we can only hope that the above trend continues in 2013, we can conclude that for better or for worse, year in and year out, fans circle their calendars for the two highly anticipated matchups versus the hated Cowboys.

Really, the Ravens are a rival? Not even close. We play once every four years and they are in a different conference. Back in the day, there was an NFL team named the Baltimore Colts that were more of a rival. The Raven were the Browns and were never a real rival. It’s bad enough those in Baltimore believe a rivalry exists where none does, we should not propagate this myth.
