Griffin III’s Day At The Races

Posted by Chris Herting on May 5, 2013 – 12:31 pm

Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III was on the move again this offseason attending Saturday’s 139th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs!

His weekend started with a Friday visit to the Muhammad Ali Center located in Louisville, Kentucky. According to his Twitter account (@RGIII), the quarterback left with feelings of great respect, admiration and inspiration for the former World Heavyweight Champion boxer.

On Sunday, he headed to Churchill Downs for the 139th Annual Kentucky Derby. There had been some clamoring on Twitter where fans jokingly challenged the quarterback to test his track skills and compete in the derby. Sadly for those fans Griffin III left it to the mammals in contention, but did offer a fun-loving response.

Despite not actually competing, it looks as though number 10 thoroughly enjoyed his day at the races. In fact, if you didn’t know he was at the Kentucky Derby, you probably could have assumed he was at NBA All-Star Weekend as he posed for pictures with NBA greats like Dr. Julius Erving (as seen below), Shaquille O’Neill, Scottie Pippen and Gary Payton.

Following Saturday’s festivities, and before Griffin III retired to his couch to watch Floyd Mayweather defend his title, he called it a day by giving thanks to his Derby host:

So chalk it up as another great weekend for your Offensive Rookie of the Year! Be sure to check out a complete photo gallery from his weekend below.

What a great day it must have been! I have been involved in showing Horses for years. Like football a lot of hard work and patience are required. I have a young horse now after losing my good show horse several years ago. (Secretariat/Quarter Horse Breeding). Starting over two years ago, but think it will come together for us this year.

I am confident that this too will be the year for the Redskins. The owner, entire staff and team members have stayed focused, worked hard and been patient. I am sure it will pay off this year and in February of 2014!
