draft-picks

As most of you already know, social media is more than ever beginning to play a huge role in our lives and in the lives of your favorite Redskins players. It was no different yesterday when quarterback Robert Griffin III and fellow Redskins teammates welcomed the newest members of the team, David Amerson and Jordan Reed, to Washington, D.C. last night via Twitter.

With two picks late last night and five picks again today, Head Coach Mike Shanahan and his staff were busy again today as the team added five talented players to the roster on Day 3 of the 2013 NFL Draft; however, the Redskins front office weren’t the only ones turning their attention to the draft.

Redskins players, old and new, went to Twitter to congratulate their newest teammates and we tried to compile as many congratulatory tweets as we could find for YOU!

Jamison Adds Talent/Depth At RB Position

Posted by Chris Herting on April 27, 2013 – 7:11 pm

Head Coach Mike Shanahan and his staff selected running back Jawan Jamison with what appears to be their last and final pick in the seventh round (228th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft. The team now has a crowded backfield with Rookie of the Year candidate Alfred Morris, Roy Helu, Jr .,  Evan Royster, Tristan Davis, Keiland Williams, and fifth round draft pick Chris Thompson as the team continues to push through offseason workouts.

Adding Jamison stiffens the competition at running back and adds depth to an already talented roster. He was the second running back taken by the Redskins in this year’s draft after the team selected all-purpose threat Chris Thompson from Florida State with their first pick in Round 5 (154th overall).

Similar in stature to Thompson, Jamison stands at 5’7” and weighs in at 203 lbs with an impressive 20 reps on the bench press at the 2013 NFL Combine. As a redshirt sophomore, Jamison rushed for 1,075 yards and four touchdowns on 255 carries (4.2 average per carry).

According to his NFL.com profile, Jamison could have returned as the starter, but felt it was best to take his talents to the NFL after accounting for a large part of a Rutgers’ offense and team that was ranked in the Top 25 nationally for much of last year.

Team Adds Secondary Depth With Rambo

Posted by Chris Herting on April 27, 2013 – 5:21 pm

Thus far in the draft, the Redskins have added strong, physical players with talent that, as head coach Mike Shanahan said, have an opportunity to cause “matchup nightmares” for opponents. In the sixth round, the team continued the trend drafting 6’0” 211 lb safety Bacarri Rambo who played his collegiate ball at the University of Georgia.

Rambo was the second safety and third secondary player that the team has added since pick No. 51 in the second round. The additions of cornerback David Amerson, safety Phillip Thomas, and safety Bacarri Rambo definitely prove that the team set out to address the weaknesses in the secondary that fans have been clamoring about over the past few months.

Some mock drafts had the Redskins selecting Rambo with the 51st overall pick in the draft so we’ll ask the question again, has Shanahan managed to have outdone himself again by finding talented players late in the draft?

Rambo totaled 73 tackles, three interceptions and three forced fumbles on his way to earning All-SEC second-team despite a shortened senior campaign.

According to his NFL.com profile, Rambo’s strength is in his ability to read quarterbacks. He also adds a ferocious hitter to the Redskins mix who likes to makes his presence felt every time he encounters his opponent.

Jenkins Added To Loaded Linebacker Unit

As I wrote earlier today, the Redskins had an extra fifth round draft pick in this year’s from a 2011 trade and used it on Florida State linebacker Brandon Jenkins.

Jenkins was the second Florida State player selected by the Burgundy and Gold in the fifth round. Just eight picks earlier, the Redskins took FSU running back Chris Thompson.

Did the Redskins just add another future Pro Bowler to a unit that already features Brian Orakpo, Ryan Kerrgian, London Fletcher and Perry Riley?

Jenkins was a preseason All-American and All-ACC candidate in 2012 before suffering a season-ending foot injury. If the former Seminole plays up to his top pick potential before being sidelined, the Redskins just got another late round steal–a Mike Shanahan specialty.

Here’s a little video to get you jacked up for Jenkins arrival in the Nation’s Capital.

Thompson Adds All-Purpose Threat

Posted by Chris Herting on April 27, 2013 – 3:28 pm

thompson

In the fifth round (154th overall), the Washington Redskins selected running back Chris Thompson out of Florida State.

Over the course of his collegiate career at Florida State, Thompson displayed quickness and versatility. Despite suffering a few injury setbacks, he offers a great runner/receiver combination out of the backfield.

Thompson was considered as one of the top all-purpose players in the country coming out of High School and if he can stay healthy, the Redskins may have just found a great dual threat to compliment Rookie of the Year candidate, Alfred Morris.

In eight games as a senior in 2012, Thompson rushed the ball 91 times for 687 yards (7.5 average) and 5 touchdowns.

Let’s take a deeper look at the former Florida State Seminole who will now take the field with the Washington Redskins.
