Griffin III & Teammates Welcome Picks

Posted by Stephen Czarda on April 26, 2013 – 11:13 pm

reactions

Who doesn’t enjoy a ball-hawking corner with 4.4 speed that picked off 18 passes during his time in a big time conference like the ACC? Who doesn’t enjoy picking up a player that head coach Mike Shanahan called “the top rated receiving tight end on their board”?

Cornerback David Amerson was selected with the 51st overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. Tight end Jordan Reed was taken with the 85th overall pick during the third round and adds a versatile dimension to the offense. Combined are the two newest members of your 2012 NFC East Champs!

Check out the reactions from some of the players including a video below from 2012 AP Offensive Rookie of the Year Robert Griffin III.

Multifaceted Reed Added To Offense

With the 85th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins focused on adding to their elite offense with the selection of Jordan Reed out of Florida.

For weeks, mock drafts predicted that the Redskins would zero in on the defensive side of the pigskin with their first few picks.

It did not matter if it was a corner, safety, or linebacker; it was just the trendy thing to do.

Well the trendy read-option attack that Washington ignited in 2012 has just added another weapon to the arsenal in the form of a 6’2″ 236 pound athlete that has the versatility that head coach Mike Shanahan will love. Reed could be a serious threat when quarterback Robert Griffin III is rolling out on play action.

According to his NFL.com draft profile, Reed can be used at multiple positions ranging from tight end to running back.

Awesome.

Check out this highlight package of the newest Redskin.

Ball-Hawking CB Amerson Taken At No. 51

Redskins Nation–finally after the first 50 picks had been made NC State cornerback David Amerson became the newest member of the Redskins with the 51st overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Amerson will be the newest member of a secondary that is headlined by former Pro Bowlers DeAngelo Hall and Brandon Meriweather as well as 2012 draft pick Richard Crawford.

Many predicted that the Redskins would take a defensive player with the No. 51 pick and well those predictions have indeed come true, but did they predict the former Jack Tatum Award winner?

In 2011, the NC State product had 13 interceptions.

Yes 13. That isn’t a typo.

Oh, and did I tell you he also has 4.4 speed?

The Redskins will gladly take that.

Here are some draft profiles and a highlight video to get you acquainted with the newest Burgundy and Golder:

Ryan Kerrigan: ‘I’m Glad I Cut My Hair’

For Ryan Kerrigan’s full Draft Day experience, check it out over on Redskins.com.

When not out mauling opposing quarterbacks and taking interceptions back for touchdowns, Redskins outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan is just your average everyman.

He relaxes by watching Family Guy and Chris Farley in his prime. He enjoys days when the boss lets him off during daylight hours, so he can spend some time on the golf course.

He’s also really good at growing hair, as evidenced by his Tarzan hairdo at the 2011 NFL Scouting Combine.

It was known going into the 2011 NFL Draft that Kerrigan was a bona fide first-round talent, making him the subject of discussion and analysis by pre-draft pundits. His 14 career forced fumbles in college were an NCAA record, but his most-recognizable feature was his hair.

And then, without warning, it was gone, buzzed down to ‘two around the sides and three on top.’

The burning question two years later, is why? Read more »

Predicting The 2013 NFC East Champions

Posted by Stephen Czarda on April 26, 2013 – 4:14 pm

(AP Photo)

(AP Photo)

Last week when the schedule was released, did you instantly dissect each matchup and tally the number of wins for the 2013 campaign?

Did you look at the 16 games and ask yourself how many playoff bound teams the Burgundy and Gold will face?

Fess up, you know you thought about the Burgundy and Gold standing in the middle of New Jersey next February hoisting the Lombardi Trophy with confetti  snow falling from the sky after rolling through the NFC with a first round bye. This of course came after the Redskins won back-to-back division crowns.

Well over on NFL.com you now have a chance to show every other fan base your thoughts not only on the Redskins winning their fourth Super Bowl (on enemy territory mind you) but how the rest of the 2013 season will stack up as well.

Check it out here:

RG3 ‘Happy But Not Satisfied’ With 2012

Posted by Stephen Czarda on April 26, 2013 – 2:19 pm

(AP Photo)

Four months removed from the Redskins first NFC East title since 1999, quarterback Robert Griffin III still isn’t satisfied with the way his debut season came to an end.

Happy?

Yes to an extent as he was truly honored for being voted the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year over fellow 2012 NFL Draft colleagues Andrew Luck, Russell Wilson and Alfred Morris.

He also certainly will not complain about winning a division crown and leading the Burgundy and Gold back to the playoffs, but in the end No. 10 never set his end goals on a division crown.

He set his sights directly on hoisting the Lombardi Trophy at Super Bowl XLVII.

No. 10 sat down with Larry Michael for the ninth installment of “10 Days With No. 10” on Redskins Nation to speak about:

–Winning AP Offensive Rookie of the Year.

–The team’s first round playoff exit.

–On how his life has changed since being on stage with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell last spring.
