Third and Fourth graders at Springwoods Elementary School in Virginia were introduced to many working professionals at their Career Day. They met doctors, accountants, salespeople, but their favorite was meeting Redskins nose tackle Chris Neild.
“I had my own classroom and when they saw the helmets and the gloves the kids went nuts,” Neild said.
Neild was asked to speak at Springwoods by one of his fiance’s friends, her children are students at the school and they thought it would be incredible to have him come and speak. He says it was very humbling and special for him to look around the room and see so many smiling faces. Neild remembered being their age and looking up to professional athletes, he hoped his message about hard work paying off was something that they really listened to.
“If you have a dream you should strive for it and keep working towards it because it can happen,” Neild said.
To finish the day Neild surprised the school over the loud-speaker by giving them their end of the day announcements. He said when he walked out of the school he was surrounded by kids wanting autographs, pictures, and hugs.
“There were at least 150 kids surrounding me, coming off busses to say hello, it was really fun!” Neild said with a glowing smile.
