Summerall Called Last Super Bowl Victory

Posted by Stephen Czarda on April 17, 2013 – 12:08 pm

Pat Summerall

On Tuesday, the football world received news that the great Pat Summerall had passed away at the age of 82.

Summerall was one of the best kickers in the NFL during his 10-year career. Summerall became familiar with the Burgandy and Gold as he appeared in 18 games against the Redskins and unfortunately for Washington, Summerall’s teams found themselves in the win column more often than not.

In a move that I’m sure the Nation’s Capital enjoyed more than any other region in the country at the time, Summerall handed in his two bar helmet in exchange for a microphone.

Once upon a time commentators were assigned specific teams to cover each week and believe it or not, he was assigned the Redskins in the late 1960’s.

But once Redskins Nation and the rest of the football world got to take in Summerall’s  calming and unique voice, it became obvious that he was going to be a legend in the booth.

In fact, did you know that Summerall called the Redskins victory over the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXVI?

Griffin III Refuses To Be Complacent

Quarterback Robert Griffin III sat down with Larry Michael on the set of Redskins Nation to recap all that went down in his first year in the Nation’s Capital after a truly spectacular career at Baylor University.

Washington handed the reigns of the franchise to the 2011 Heisman winner as he left little doubt that moving up to the second overall pick in last year’s draft will go down as one of the greatest trades in history.

The AP Offensive Rookie of the Year shared his thoughts in the first segment on:

–His nerves before stepping out of the tunnel at New Orleans Week 1.

–Saints fans joining the Redskins faithful that day chanting his name in unison.

–On just how much he hates to lose especially close calls such as the team’s 31-28 loss to the St. Louis Rams in Week 2.

–We all know that the man is driven to be the best out there each and every week, so how does he feel about complacency?

–Stepping out of the locker room and into the spotlight in front of a rabid crowd at FedExField for the first time.

–On concentrating on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after Brandon Meriweather and Aldrick Robinson collided during warm ups.

So sit back, put on some headphones if your at work and hear Griffin III give an inside look at how his freshman campaign went in his own words below.

Out of all the students and schools who completed the challenge, Glenridge Elementary School students read the most books and had the most children participate. Chris Cooley visited Glenridge on Tuesday to read The Three Ninja Pigs, to four third grade classes.

UPDATED: Redskins Mock Draft Tracker

Posted by Chris Herting on April 17, 2013 – 8:01 am

There’s a newcomer in this week’s Mock Draft Tracker and it shouldn’t surprise you if we said that this player comes from Southern Methodist University (SMU). The Redskins have drafted three players (Aldrick Robinson – D6-‘11, Josh LeRibeus – D3-’12, Richard Crawford – D7-’12) out of the SMU program in recent years so it wouldn’t come as a shock to see the team go in that direction once again.

What may surprise you about this particular player is the position that he plays.
