Kerrigan’s Dentist Trip: He Knows The Drill

Posted by Stephen Czarda on April 10, 2013 – 3:01 pm

Ryan Kerrigan

2011 first round pick Ryan Kerrigan has quickly becoming one of Redskins Nation’s favorite players, as the Purdue product has led the Burgundy and Gold in sacks the past two years.

Recently, I looked into why some Redskins players wear a visor on game days and while some prefer it as a fashion statement, others wear a protective shield due to injury history. Kerrigan is one of the top performers on the newly minted Redskins “All-visor team”.

While a visor protects Kerrigan’s eyes and nose, the face mask protects his mouth and unfortunately for No. 91, he couldn’t have either piece of football equipment when he went to the dentists office yesterday.

You see that smile above?

Find out why it might be looking slightly different after his most recent visit to the mouth doctor.

Chester Enjoying A Charitable Offseason

Redskins guard Chris Chester is one of the important returning cogs in the Redskins offense. Recognized for his durability and gritty play, Chester has yet to miss a game in his two seasons with Washington.

This dedication carries over into his personal life off the field.

During the offseason, Chester reached out to the Northern Virginia Community Foundation, which supports growing philanthropic efforts that help strengthen the community. The foundation connected Chester with a program called ReSET, which focuses on improving STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) development in high school curriculums.

Chester says he was inspired to contibute to ReSET after reading Hot, Flat and Crowded and That Used to Be Us by Thomas Friedman.

Furthering his philanthropathic ways, Chester also donated $5,000 to the athletic department of Broken Bow High School, his wife’s high school in Oklahoma.

Texans’ Kubiak Remembers Jack Pardee

The NFL community includes more than 2,000 active players and coaches at any given time, making it one of the largest and most close-knit fraternities in the world.

This was illustrated earlier this week, as former Redskins player and head coach Jack Pardee was laid to rest at St. Michael Catholic Church in Houston, Texas. Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak has been busy preparing for the 2013 NFL Draft, but took time out of the office to attend the service.

Kubiak–the former right-hand man of Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan in Denver–met Pardee during his playing days at Texas A&M.

Pardee was a fellow Aggie alum and worked on the football staff during his coaching career. Both men remained faithful alumni afterward, and developed a bond that continued through the years.

Kubiak spoke with Nick Scurfield of the Texans website on Monday afternoon, sharing some kind words and reflections on Jack Pardee’s passing. Read more »

UPDATE: Redskins Mock Draft Tracker

Posted by Chris Herting on April 10, 2013 – 12:00 pm

draft-hat_blog

Since we last updated the Redskins Mock Draft Tracker, the team has re-signed CB DeAngelo Hall and QB Rex Grossman and added QB Pat White who brings a run/pass dimension similar to QB Robert Griffin III. More likely than not the team will not carry four quarterbacks into the season and White’s long-term role remains to be seen, but he at least provides the Redskins with a mobile quarterback while Griffin III is on the mend.

Re-signing cornerback DeAngelo Hall helps provide depth in the secondary heading into OTAs and offers a little bit of leeway in the draft; however, the team most likely will still need to address the secondary come April.

So how do these moves affect the experts’ Mock Draft predictions?

Headlining the Mock Drafts for the Redskins is cornerback Darius Slay from Mississippi State who was featured in two of the updated boards. Here’s an updated look at the Mock Draft boards including an addition of a prospect that may intrigue you Redskins fans!

What Will Make Us A Playoff Team in 2013?

Posted by Stephen Czarda on April 10, 2013 – 11:14 am

Alfred Morris, Robert Griffin III

By now you know all about the 2012 campaign where the Burgundy and Gold secured their first division title since the turn of the century.

While the season that was will go down as one of the most exciting  in franchise history thanks in large part to the instant injection of highlight reel moments by rookie record-breakers Robert Griffin III and Alfred Morris, the team as a whole stepped up their “game” after the bye week and made those that told them it was time to consider the season a lost cause bite their tongues.

With the 2013 season fast approaching (OTAs start next week!) its time to look forward to what the campaign can bring to the DMV.

As I was browsing the Internet this morning I came across an article by Yahoo! Sports that states what they believe will be key to the Redskins making back-to-back playoff appearances for the first time since they made it three straight years from 1990-1992. (Also, in the second year—the Redskins made the playoffs they won Super Bowl XXVI. Just sayin’.)

So lets take a look at what they believe will help the franchise make the 2013 playoffs.
