Thanksgiving Win Welcomes “Baby Griffin”

Thanksgiving is usually a time for family get-togethers, good laughs, and a belly full of food, but for one family there was a Texas-sized bet riding on the Redskins-Dallas game this past Turkey Day – the name of their unborn child.

Marissa Pena, a 31-year-old lifelong Cowboys fan placed a bet with her boyfriend, Emanuel Vega, a lifelong Redskins fan to name their son after a player on the winning team. The story was originally noted on our sister site Extreme Skins, and was covered first in the Washington Postdallas star

“I was second-guessing the whole time, like, ‘What am I thinking?’ If she’s gonna name him after a Cowboys player, there’s no doubt he would be a Cowboys fan. My son, as a Cowboys fan? I might have to disown him,” said Vega.

Later in the interview Vega continued, “We’ve had bets before, [but this] was even bigger than the division title.”

Since this is the Redskins Blog, we won’t bore you with the details of what could have been, meaning the name that the couple had decided on should Dallas have won the game, and it’s really not important.

Fact of the matter is that Redskins fans remember the day well, a 38-31 victory over the Cowboys at the hands of QB Robert Griffin III and company.

And you all know what that means, come April there will be a new Robert Griffin in town.

Although this Griffin is still a youngster and we’re unsure what his future holds, it’s only right to think that maybe one day this Robert Griffin will experience a similar homecoming to that of the current Redskins quarterback.

But what if football isn’t in this child’s future? Well, that’s okay because after all is said and done, there’s one more Redskins fan that will be singing ‘Hail to the Redskins’ on the streets of Dallas!

So with that, we salute you into this world Robert Griffin and say, Hail to the Redskins!
