Is Griffin III Expanding Sock Collection?

Posted by Daniel Zimmet on March 29, 2013 – 11:41 am

By now, Redskins Nation is very familiar with QB Robert Griffin III‘s obsession with his “Superman Socks”, seen above sporting them on stage while accepting the Heisman Trophy in 2011.

Although his allegiance seems to lie with the DC Comic superhero, a recent tweet from ESPN’s Katie Linendoll suggests he may need to look into also supporting Marvel hero Captain America.

RG3, Rice in Sweet 16 Matchup for Madden

Posted by Stephen Czarda on March 28, 2013 – 3:08 pm

Robert Griffin III

Another week, another opponent defeated by Robert Griffin III in the Madden 25 cover bracket. In Griffin III’s round of 64 matchup against fellow NFL sophomore gunslinger Ryan Tannehill, the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year took home nearly 90 percent of the vote.

In his second round duel against another 2012 NFL Draft first round pick, Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin, Griffin III got over 75 percent of the vote to catapult him into a Sweet Sixteen matchup against another tailback.

Unlike the first two rounds where he was pitted against men who only had one year’s experience on the professional level, Griffin III is going up against seasoned veteran Ray Rice of the Baltimore Ravens.

Redskins fans may remember Rice from his cameo at FedExField this past December. Those same fans will also remember that the Redskins would crush the hopes of any Baltimore fans that traveled to Redskins territory that day after the Burgundy and Gold would add the Ravens to their list of team’s defeated during their epic late-season winning streak to end to the 2012 campaign.

Find out how Griffin III stacks up against Rice and why you should continue to help him move on to the next round in the bracket.

Beathard On The Hiring Of Joe Gibbs

Posted by Stephen Czarda on March 28, 2013 – 1:12 pm

Bobby Beathard, Pat Bowlen

The Washington Redskins are ramping up preparations for their 81st campaign, looking to defend their NFC East crown after an improbable seven-game winning streak to end the 2012 regular season. Five of those wins came against division foes.

Winning a second consecutive division crown is certainly on the team’s goals sheet for the 2013 season, but this team has their sights set on a bigger prize.

Led by head coach Mike Shanahan and general manager Bruce Allen, the team is seeking to add a fourth Lombardi Trophy to the collection.

The first two Super Bowl team’s were assembled by Hall of Fame coach Joe Gibbs and general manager Bobby Beathard.

Beathard’s hiring of Gibbs is hands down one of the great moves in franchise history as the Burgundy and Gold dominated the NFC during the 1980’s.

Find out what Beathard had to say about prying Gibbs away from the San Diego Chargers and tapping him to be the lead man of the Washington Redskins here:

Aiden’s Dream Day At Redskins Park

Posted by Chris Herting on March 28, 2013 – 10:44 am

We’d like to introduce you to Aiden Lipscomb, a fun-loving, energetic, yet sometimes expectedly shy, animated three year old from Northern Virginia. He’s still just a toddler but his heart is full of life and just like the rest of us bleeds burgundy and gold!

He claims to be your number one Redskins fan something that after reminiscing on the afternoon spent with Aiden is hard to argue.

His Dad, Chris Lipscomb, grew up in a Redskins family located in Alexandria, Virginia, while his Mom, Leslie Lipscomb, was raised in nearby Clifton, so there was never any doubt in their minds that their little boy Aiden would grow up singing ‘Hail to the Redskins!’ – his favorite song by the way.

When asked about his favorite Redskins player without hesitation he answered smiling, “Chris Cooley.” His answer was fitting seeing as his #47 jersey was the shirt that he decided to sport on his dream tour of Redskins Park.

What you would never be able to tell without knowing his story is that at just five months old Aiden was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS), an aggressive type of muscle cancer.

Houston Remembers MNF Tackle Fondly

Posted by Stephen Czarda on March 28, 2013 – 9:50 am

NFL Historical Imagery

The Washington Redskins are preparing to kick off their 81st campaign on the heels of one of the most exciting finishes in franchise history.

The 2012 NFC East Champs were led by the marvelous play of quarterback Robert Griffin III and running back Alfred Morris. The tandem rumbled over opposing defenses en route to a league-high 2,709 yards on the ground. The offensive charge led the team back to postseason play for the first time since 2007.

Back in the 1970’s, the Redskins were a consistent Lombardi Trophy threat because of clutch plays made on the defensive side of the pigskin.

One play at RFK Stadium on a Monday night primetime matchup against the Dallas Cowboys symbolizes just how great that unit was during the decade.

Redskins Lone NFC East Team in Top-10

Posted by Stephen Czarda on March 27, 2013 – 10:29 am

Cowboys Redskins Football

The 2013 season is in full swing as free agency enters its third full week of wheeling and dealing. Pieces are being collected as teams look to build depth and are gearing up for a Super Bowl run in New Jersey in a little less than 11 months.

Power rankings have been created as a way to judge teams for the first time since the confetti finished falling from the roof of the Superdome in February.

This time last year, even with the pending additions of Heisman-winning quarterback Robert Griffin III and record-setting running back Alfred Morris, many across the league felt that the Redskins would once again be dwelling in the cellar of the NFC East for the fourth time in five years.

An improbable seven-game winning streak to end the season and the first playoff game in front of a sellout crowd at FedExField in 13 years put any doubts about this team to rest and tore apart preseason “expectations”.

Find out where the league ranks the team in its ever-so-early debut of the 2013 power rankings:
