A Saturday Snapshot From The Combine
Posted by on February 24, 2013 – 10:35 amThe Offensive Line and Tight Ends took the field today to show off their speed and agility. Although we didn’t expect to see a whole lot of speed burners today, there were a few players who impressed scouts and who possibly saw their stocks rise. For us, it was also fun to watch to say the least.
Here’s a look at the top five tight end 40-yard dash times from Saturday (via nfl.com):
- Player School Height Weight 40 time
- Chris Gragg Arkansas 6-3 244 4.50
- Matt Furstenburg Maryland 6-3 242 4.62
- Jake Stoneburner Ohio State 6-3 252 4.65
- Tyler Eifert Notre Dame 6-5 250 4.68
- Vance McDonald Rice 6-4 267 4.69
And now a look at the top five offensive lineman 40-yard dash times from Saturday (via nfl.com):
- Player School Height Weight 40 time
- Terron Armstead Arkansas-Pine Bluff 6-5 306 4.71
- Lane Johnson Oklahoma 6-6 303 4.72
- Eric Fisher Central Michigan 6-7 306 5.01
- David Bakhtiari Colorado 6-4 295 5.01
- Jeff Baca UCLA 6-3 295 5.03
According to NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock, Armstead’s 4.65 unofficial time and 4.71 official 40 time are both the fastest ever recorded for offensive linemen at the Combine. Gone are the days of unsightly human spectacles jostling down the sideline in seven seconds.
Some of these guys are projected first round picks, but as always draft day always guarantees to deliver surprises and a few of these players may still be on the board when the Redskins pick 51st overall.
So keep your eye on the players above, especially since it’s safe to say that offensive line and tight end are two positions that the Redskins may need to address. Time will tell and we’ll have more of a clear picture about the direction the team will head following the start of free agency on March 12th.
Without further ado, we’re headlining yesterday’s news in a 2-minute drill format:
- The team announced that they have named Mike McDaniel as Wide Receivers Coach.
- In Part 3 of Redskins GM Bruce Allen at the 2013 NFL Combine, he gives his take on his favorite tests at the Combine and the most ‘overrated’ test in the NFL Combine.
- Redskins GM Bruce Allen talks the ‘tough’ decisions in free agency in Part 4 from Indy at the NFL Combine!
- Yesterday on radio row the Redskins hosted, in combination with Pro Football Writers of America and Google, the first-ever Combine Google+ Hangout, featuring Redskins.com’s Brian Tinsman, CSNWashington’s Tarik El-Bashir, and Bleacher Report’s Will Carroll. There’s a lot of great insight into the team and needs were addressed by these experts. If you haven’t seen it, you can watch it in its entirety here. Special thanks to everyone who was involved and stay tuned for more from yesterday’s Hangout!
- Notre Dame LB Manti Te’o addressed the media in his first press conference since the scandal. Here’s a look at the crowded media room:
Did anyone hear that Notre Dame LB Manti Te'o is addressing the media today? #Combine http://t.co/QixR8ncH3h—
