Welcome to your weekly Redskins Social Media Spotlight, where we highlight the trendy topics and social media campaigns going on this week in Redskins Nation. Check it out and make suggestions below.
Last week’s Social Media Weekly Spotlight highlighted two birthdays, one of them belonging to QB Robert Griffin III who turned 23 on Tuesday, February 12. And although we like to take credit for all of the cutesy birthday wishes and cheesy photos, we weren’t the only ones on social media with cliché, confetti-filled birthday pics. Here are some of the others who wanted a piece of the birthday pie:
One of the difficulties of the offseason is trying to find ways to fill our free time. Birthday photos are one way, boredom is another way, but believe it or not, there’s still football news every now and then.
Last Thursday, the team announced the signing of NT Ron Brace. Here’s the reaction from Brace who was on twitter sharing his thoughts shortly after hearing the news.
Lucky for Brace, he can finally pack away his snow shoes and escape the cold and snowy winter that’s been hammering the New England coast of late. And good news for all, the former second round pick was able to find his car so he can begin the trek south to Ashburn.
On behalf of Redskins fans, welcome to the DMV Ron! You can follow the newest member of the burgundy and gold on Twitter @Braceyoself97.
As most of you reading this probably already know, the Redskins hired Special Teams Coordinator Keith Burns last week to replace longtime special teams coach Danny Smith. But we’ll turn to ESPN980’s Chris Russell for the facts you may not know, the obscure, next level stats that tell the story of Burns’ success in Denver.
Thanks Chris for giving us a quick glimpse of Burns’ track record in Denver!
One of the bigger stories this week was the groundbreaking of the new Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center coming to Richmond for training camp 2013. Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell, Richmond Mayor Dwight C. Jones, Bon Secours Virginia Health System CEO Peter Bernard and Washington Redskins Executive Vice President/General Manager Bruce Allen, were some of the leaders in attendance.
In case you missed it, Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell does indeed have a Twitter account and shared this great photo from Thursday’s ceremony.
The state-of-the-art facility is just that and, much like Redskins fans, we’re hoping it will help usher in a new era of Redskins football!
Last but not least, one of the questions the team will need to address this offseason is the status of LB London Fletcher. General Manager Bruce Allen addressed his status at Thursday’s Groundbreaking, saying that the team will give the veteran linebacker the time he needs to recuperate and make his decision. That, however, did not stop a local service station employee from asking the burning question during a routine oil change.
What’s on tap this week in social media?
We’ll be taking a brief break from contests and giveaways as we prepare to head out to Indianapolis this week for the NFL Combine! Yes, Redskins fans, it’s finally here and we’ll be capturing the excitement straight from Lucas Oil Stadium.
So stay tuned for opportunities to talk to scouts, coaches and/or writers who cover the team. We’ll attempt to corral some of the best names in the business to bring you exclusive access from the combine. But whoever it may be, Redskins social media will be providing you with behind-the-scenes updates and all-access Redskins combine coverage.
And be sure to check out www.redskins.com this week for NFL Combine previews and analysis. As always, Hail to the Redskins!
