To my knowledge, they’re not seeking damages, or past royalties. They just want the team to change the name. Snyder, OTOH, would have to spend money developing a new brand. Of course, he’d recoup some of that with the wave of brand new merch that would come along with it.

So, this comes down to economics, agreed – but only the side of Redskins ownership.

It is not surprising that the Washington team has such a horrible record–karma. I encourage leaders of tribal nations to reach out to the NAACP (and other relevant groups) to ban together to fight this issue.

It offends large numbers of Native Americans. It’s a slur like the “N” word to African Americans. They’re especially offended by the feathered headress as it’s a reserved honorary symbol. I’ve been a fan of this team for most of my 65 years. It’s hard for me too. But it’s just a label. Change it to “redwings” “redstarts” or “Washington Diaamonds” – I don’t really care. The team will be the same, the colors will be the same. We must honor our ethnic and minority groups, especially those who we uprooted, decimated, and slaughtered in vast numbers as conquerors. This move would help them feel more pride in who they are. That’s much more important to me than a sports team name.
