Cheerleaders Visit Warriors for Super Bowl

Posted by Melissa O'Hara on January 30, 2013 – 1:55 am

With the Super Bowl right around the corner, we thought we’d check in with the First Ladies of Football to see what their plans might be. We sat down with Michelle, a team captain who just finished her 6th year on the team, about her plans to visit the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for their Super Bowl Party.

After attending the 2012 Christmas party, Michelle reminisced “the previous events I have attended have all been a mixture of emotional and humbling, I truly believe the men and women who serve our country are our true nation’s heroes.”

WRNMMC is the first destination in the US for caring for the wounded, ill and injured from global conflicts, and the world’s largest military medical center. The men and women have taught her that “life is too short and precious not to constantly serve and do right by others.”

As a Surgical Manager for a plastic surgeon in Georgetown, she is able to do “a little bit of everything” including giving back to the community, but would like to go back to school for nursing.

What better place for experience than visiting the Nation’s wounded warriors! With 2-6 cheerleaders attending the event, the girls are able to talk with the men & women about more than preliminaries, most like to talk about sports!

Michelle points out that “some often, maybe not truthfully, admit they’re a Redskins fan! But they’re from all over.”

The Cheerleader visits hope to inspire hopeful thoughts for the service men and women recovering, “that everything will be okay – that someone back home loves and appreciates them.”

The best form of gratitude? Respect.

“The average person can become so fogged with their daily life that they often forget where they come from, the roots of who they are; a nation, and why it’s so beautiful!” says Michelle, and her little piece of advice, she encourages “The world is much bigger than you, but you are perfectly capable of conquering it if you know your boundaries”.
