The ‘Other’ Redskins Pro Bowl Honoree

Posted by Melissa O'Hara on January 23, 2013 – 4:03 pm

Fifty years of tradition. That’s what Tecoya, this year’s Pro Bowl Redskins Cheerleader, represents.

Tecoya made the trip to Hawaii this week to dance with the mixed team squad at Aloha Stadium. She was chosen by her peers, voted based on her expertise in “dance, physical fitness and overall personality.”

Her reward is the trip of a lifetime, and the opportunity to share her experience with everyone in Redskins Nation.

Tecoya is a fourth year veteran of the Redskins Cheerleading Squad and a full-time medical assistant at a private practice for internal medicine. (Good luck not letting that intimidate you.)

“I’m still speechless and extremely grateful,” she said this week before departing for sunny Hawaii. “It’s an absolute honor to be selected for the Pro Bowl and I hope to represent my team well.”

By sticking to her principles, Tecoya said she has opened endless windows of opportunities for herself by staying humble and listening to people.

“I have done several promotions that have allowed me to meet people from every background possible and at my job,” she said. “I have a greater connection with people by just really listening.”

She was definitely listening in her preparation for the trip, soliciting the advice of other members of the squad who had gone before her.

“After speaking with the past Redskins Pro Bowl Cheerleaders and the other chosen girls of the 2013 team, I’m more than excited to go,” she said. “I absolutely enjoy dancing and meeting other girls who have the same passion as I do.”

During this experience, Tecoya hopes to learn life lessons from the other ladies selected, to incorporate into her life journey. “You never know what part of someone else’s story can touch your life and change you!”

By sure to check back and follow Tecoya’s Blog as she reports from Hawaii throughout the week. In addition to preparing for her sideline performance at the big game, the cheerleaders also participate in a number of community service projects in Hawaii.
