This magical Washington Redskins 2012 season has come to an end.

The Seattle Seahawks came back to defeat the Redskins, 24-14, today at FedExField in the NFC Wild Card round to advance to next weekend’s Divisional Round matchup against the top-seeded Atlanta Falcons.

With their quarterback noticably hobbled by a knee injury since midway through the first quarter, Washington was unable to hold off the furious Seattle comeback, which resulted in 24 unanswered points..

Seattle took the lead for the first time in the game on a 27-yard touchdown run by Marshawn Lynch with 7:08 remaining in the fourth quarter. After the two-point converstion — a pass from Russell Wilson to tight end Zach Miller — they led 21-14, and they didn’t look back.

Things got even worse for the Redskins on the ensuing drive.

The final game at FedExField in 2012 is down to its final 15 minutes.

After three quarters, the Washington Redskins lead the Seattle Seahawks, 14-13, in today’s NFC Wild Card round battle.

The winner advances to Atlanta, where they will play the top-seeded Falcons in the NFC Divisional Round of the playoffs.

Seattle got things rolling on their first drive of the half. They got all the way to the Washington 35, where they converted a 3rd and 1 around the 13-minute mark with a three-yard run by fullback Michael Robinson.

The Washington Redskins were rolling in the first quarter of today’s NFC Wild Card round matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.

But the main concern heading into the second quarter was about quarterback Robert Griffin III and his knee, as the rookie Pro Bowler began limping towards the end of the first quarter and was examined by medical personnel on the sideline.

Griffin III was able to stay in the game, but it will take another half of action to determine exactly how effective he’ll be for the rest of this game.

The good news? At halftime, the Redskins lead the Seahawks, 14-13.

The Seahawks got cooking for the first time all game on their first drive of the second quarter.

Morris: ‘I Never Met The Rookie Wall’

Posted by Andrew Walker on January 6, 2013 – 12:23 pm

Washington Redskins running back Alfred Morris said he didn’t even know what a rookie wall was until he was asked about it by a couple of reporters this season.

In this case, ignorance was bliss, as the running back turned in one of the best rookie rushing campaigns in NFL history, with 1,613 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Rookie wall? What rookie wall?

Morris this past week was a guest on the NFL Network’s “Around The League,” and talked about his season, as well as a few other topics — including today’s NFC Wild Card round playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks at FedExField.

‘Playbook:’ London Fletcher’s Impact

Posted by Andrew Walker on January 6, 2013 – 11:01 am

The Washington Redskins’ offense has been consistently effective throughout the entire 2012 season, but in order for the team to become a playoff contender, it needed the same consistency from its defense.

Riddled by injuries to three starters early in the season, the Washington defense struggled through the first half of the season. But as the unit and its coaches got more comfortable with its personnel and assignments, the second half of the season was a different story.

Not coincidentally, the overall product on the field improved dramatically. The Redskins (10-6), 2012 NFC East champions, today play host to the first playoff game at FedExField since 1999 winners of seven straight.

The unquestioned leader of the Redskins’ defense is captain and middle linebacker London Fletcher. Fletcher — who last week was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Month — has had a dominating second half of the season in 2012, despite a nagging ankle injury that has kept him out of several practices in the weeks leading up to the games. This season, Fletcher has 74 tackles, two sacks and four interceptions in the second half — an all-around performance that gives head coach Mike Shanahan and defensive coordinator Jim Haslett much to be proud of heading into today’s NFC Wild Card round playoff game vs. the Seattle Seahawks (11-5).

Fletcher recently joined the set of the NFL Network’s “Playbook,” and talked with analyst Matt Millen about what it takes to play the linebacker position. The full video of that appearance is below, but here’s some snippets of the conversation:
