Some Sorry For Counting Redskins Out

There’s many, many NFL experts and analysts who have spent their Holiday season eating crow about how they believed the 2012 season would turn out for the Washington Redskins.

Though we at the Redskins Blog are in the process of recovering some of those same experts’ predictions from weeks and months ago, it’s also worth bringing up those who have admitted when they were wrong.

NFL.com Around The League editor Gregg Rosenthal did just that yesterday.

Back on Nov. 6, Rosenthal — who has written a series of “Stick a fork in them” articles throughout the season when he feels a team has no shot to make the playoffs — believed the Redskins’ loss to the Carolina Panthers, making them 3-6 at the time, was enough to consider them out of the playoff hunt.

The Redskins were the sixth team Rosenthal stuck a fork in, effectively making them the 26th-best team in the league.

“Second place in the NFC East may not sound like much, but it would be a start. The Redskins can pull that off,” Rosenthal wrote at the time.

Since that game, however, the Redskins (10-6) have won seven straight games, including their 28-18 victory over the Dallas Cowboys 28-18 last Sunday that earned them their first NFC East championship since 1999.

The turnaround was something not many — other than those at Redskins Park — saw coming. That included Rosenthal, who apologized yesterday to Redskins fans for prematurely giving up on their team.

“The Redskins got the fork at 3-6. At the time, I wrote that the team would have to run to table to make the playoffs. That was right. I wrote the defense couldn’t get it together enough to win seven straight. That was wrong. When Mike Shanahan gave us the “evaluating for next season” quote, it felt like he gave me no choice. Whoops.

The Redskins were the first team since the 1996 Jacksonville Jaguars to make the playoffs after a 3-6 start. The lesson: Never count out Robert Griffin III.”

Lesson learned.

Rosenthal deserves credit for stepping up and admitting he made a mistake. Perhaps others will follow in his footsteps.

Gregg Rosenthal, you suck. Never count out RG3? Never count out the Redskins. It’s a team sport, not tennis you bum.

It takes a big man (Rosenthal) to step up and apologize. I respect for that. #HTTR

If you look at last season, the RedSkins were lacking a quartback that didn’t throw interceptions. So, now that we have RG3 we have a better chance of winning. Add Morse to the run game, and we can beat any team. Go RedSkins…..

I’m a blind homer because I seriously can’t see anyone beating the Redskins the way they are playing team ball right now. I seriously get irritated when I read all this Seattle praise. Week after week practically everyone counts us out of every game. Week after week the skins prove every one wrong. I don’t see this game being any different. HTTR!!!!!!

A lot of people have now jumped on the Redskins band wagon. I’m a die hard Redskins, but live in the middle of Dallas Cowboy country. When returning to work today…a ton of people are now pulling for the Redskins…Excuse me, but aren’t you guys the same bustas that claimed the cowgirls were going to win the NFC East.

I’ve never been on the Cowboys website, not once. It tickles me to see dally fans here to talk trash about the Seattle game. Don’t worry Dallas fans, you can come to this website as much as you like, so you know what champs look like. After Sunday people will call Washington out of the SF game too. Pros have saluted RG3 pretty soon even the fans will have to as well. for now They just don’t get it, and I hope it stays that way.

This apology seems legit. I think the fans should respect it. As a compliment to the donation Gregg R should have also bought an RG III wig and worn it around for a day and posted a pic on twitter. If you think about it that works out for everyone. Even Gregg.
