2012 In Review: Top 5 Blog Posts
Posted by on December 31, 2012 – 5:44 pmLast night’s NFC East Division-clinching victory against the Dallas Cowboys at FedExField put the whipped cream on top of what has already been a very memorable 80th Anniversary year for the Washington Redskins.
The cherry, of course, only comes with another Lombardi trophy. That will be determined in 2013.
The Redskins and head coach Mike Shanahan in 2012 continued their rebuilding process by adding weapons on the offensive side of the ball; saw an unassuming rookie running back who was perfectly fine driving his 1991 Mazda to practice; released one of the most popular players in team history (only to bring him back); and a 37-year-old linebacker continued playing like he was a rookie — just to name a few memories.
Oh, and they drafted this kid out Baylor with the second overall pick in April’s NFL Draft.
Thanks to the magic of WordPress, we were able to scrap together the Top 5 Redskins Blog posts of 2012 on this, the final day of the year. These are ranked in order by number of views.
The Redskins Blog had a banner year in 2012, as our posts got more than 3.1 million total views from 201 countries around the world. That more than doubles the views from 2011, when we had a respectable 1.3 million of them.
So, without further ado, here’s the Top 5 Redskins Blog posts of 2012 (in reverse order):

Redskins Playoff Tickets Are Sold Out
Posted by on December 31, 2012 – 2:11 pmThis comes as no surprise.
The Washington Redskins announced today that tickets to the NFC Wild Card Weekend playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday have sold out.
In the event there are player or visitor team ticket returns, fans are encouraged to check with Ticketmaster for availability.
With as many fans that I saw early this morning rushing to the Redskins Ticket Office at FedExField following Washington’s 28-18 win over the Dallas Cowboys late Sunday night (see above), I knew this announcement was only a matter of time.
For those who were fortunate enough to score tickets, here’s what you need to know about Sunday’s big game:

Redskins-Cowboys Scores High Ratings
Posted by on December 31, 2012 – 11:56 amIf you were anywhere near a TV or a computer in the past few days, there’s a good chance you heard “Redskins” and “Cowboys” dozens and dozens of times.
After days of hype, the two teams and rivals met on national TV last night for NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” in a game that was turned out to be the NFC East championship. The winner moves on to host a playoff game; the loser goes home.
In case you forgot, the Redskins won 28-18 and will play host to the Seattle Seahawks Sunday at in the Wild Card round of the NFL playoffs.
Not surprisingly, the game performed very, very well ratings-wise, according to NBC Sports. Here’s some of their tweets from this morning:

‘Surprising’ ‘Skins In Peter King’s MMQB
Posted by on December 31, 2012 – 9:53 amImagine your state of mind about one year ago as a Redskins fan.
Washington had just ended its season with a 34-10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles to end the year with a 5-11 record, as the team had several issues to address heading into the offseason.
They addressed those issues, alright — and then some.
They got two key free agents at the wide receiver position — Pierre Garçon and Joshua Morgan — and then traded up in April’s NFL Draft to get Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III with the No. 2 overall pick. They also continued building depth along their offensive line by selecting guys like Josh LeRibeus and Tom Compton, strengthened the quarterback position even more by selecting Kirk Cousins, and, snatched a guy named Alfred Morris from Florida Atlantic in the sixth round.
The result? Well, Sports Illustrated’s Peter King put it perfectly in today’s “Monday Morning Quarterback” column:

Redskins Celebrate Goal No. 1 On Twitter
Posted by on December 31, 2012 – 4:01 amThe Washington Redskins’ Goal No. 1 is accomplished.
The team claimed its first NFC East title late since 1999 Sunday night with its 28-18 win over the Dallas Cowboys. When they got back into their locker room, they found their NFC East Division Champions hats waiting for them.
But, as head coach Mike Shanahan has reiterated the past few weeks, only one team is happy at the end of the season. A divisional title off the heels of seven straight wins is nice, but it won’t mean anything if it doesn’t translate into a Super Bowl ring at season’s end.
For early this morning and into the day, however, the Redskins can celebrate their victory over the Cowboys. Then it’s on to the Seattle Seahawks, the Redskins’ opponent in Sunday’s playoff matchup at FedExField.
Here’s a collection of the Redskins players celebrating Sunday night’s win via Twitter:
