The Redskins are hitting .625 in NFL Rookie of the Week awards this season.

With one week remaining in the 2012 regular season, Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III today was named NFL Rookie of the Week for the seventh time, this time for his performance last Sunday in the Redskins’ victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

It’s  sixth straight week and 10th time overall a Washington rookie has won the award this season.

Going through Griffin III’s accolades and accomplishments at this point of the season would probably be overkill. Let’s just agree that he’s put up the best rookie season for a quarterback in Redskins history — and perhaps one of the best overall rookie seasons for a quarterback, ever.

This time around, Griffin III completed 16-of-24 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns in the Redskins’ 27-20 defeat of the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. He did so after missing the prior week’s game against the Cleveland Browns due to a sprained right LCL suffered late in the Week 14 victory vs. the Baltimore Ravens.

This most recent NFL Rookie of the Week award reminds me of a tweet from the Seattle Seahawks earlier in the week:

Russell Wilson has had a heck of a year, and the league is more than welcome to name the Rookie of the Week award after him based upon his weekly nominations.

The NFL Rookie of the Year, however, should have another name associated with it: Robert Griffin III.
