It’s the final week of the 2012 regular season, and the Washington Redskins are right where they want to be: playing for a shot at a division title and a playoff appearance.
The Redskins take on the Cowboys Sunday night at FedExField in a rivalry matchup for the ages: the winner takes home the NFC East crown, while the loser needs lots of help from other teams to secure a Wild Card spot.
Washington also finishes the regular season ranked among the top 10 teams in the NFL. Though most of the organizations listed below had the Redskins at No. 8 last week, this time around Washington is either at the No. 8 or 9 positions. Understandably, those who ranked Washington No. 9 this week (and moved it down a spot) did so because the teams ahead of the Redskins had already clinched playoff spots.
Here’s where the Redskins fall with this week’s Power Rankings Roundup:
The Redskins moved down from eighth to ninth in the AP Pro 32 poll:
CBSSports.com last week moved the Redskins up six whole spots to ninth overall. They sit in the same position this week:
The Redskins also moved down a spot in the ESPN.com power rankings to ninth:
ESPN.com NFC East blogger Dan Graziano dug further into the ESPN.com rankings:
FoxSports.com’s Brian Billick kept the Redskins at the same No. 8 spot they occupied a week ago:
NFL.com analyst Elliot Harrison has the Redskins at ninth, but he does so while throwing receiver Joshua Morgan under the bus. I suppose he’s entitled to do so, but let’s also remember that Harrison was the guy who ranked the Redskins 30th after Week 3, and the NFL also tweeted last night that he picked the Cowboys to win Sunday night’s game. Harrison might also want to know that Morgan scored a touchdown prior to last week — in the Redskins’ Week 14 victory over the Baltimore Ravens — and was also the one who recovered Robert Griffin III’s fumble for a touchdown the week before against the New York Giants:
ProFootballTalk.com/NBC this week puts the Redskins-Cowboys game into perspective:
Sports Illustrated and columnist Don Banks keeps the Redskins at No. 8 this week:
