Alexander-Fletcher Community

Washington Redskins linebackers Lorenzo Alexander and London Fletcher today were announced as the NFL Players Association’s annual PULSE Award winners for outstanding work in the community.

Alexander and Fletcher were voted by their teammates during annual NFLPA locker room meetings and received monetary donations for their foundations or a charity of their choice, according to the NFLPA.

Alexander and Fletcher will also be eligible to submit applications for the Byron “Whizzer” White Award, the highest honor the NFLPA can bestow on a player. The award was established by the professional football players of America to “acknowledge a debt of gratitude to one of their own, Supreme Court Justice Byron Raymond “Whizzer” White—scholar, athlete, patriot, humanitarian and public servant.” The NFLPA presents this prestigious annual award “to the player that is just as dedicated off the field as he is on the field.”

Both Alexander and Fletcher are very deserving recipients of this year’s NFLPA Pulse Awards.

Alexander does tremendous work through his own ACES Foundation, which encourages young men and women to take pride in their community, serving as mentors to the youth in an attempt to create a positive cycle.

Through the ACES Foundation, Alexander provides a variety of programs for children, including SAT prep workshops, “real talk” sessions, tutoring and various fundraisers, such as his annual celebrity bowling benefits, golf tournaments, and football camps.

Fletcher, meanwhile, has been a leader off the field for years with his own London’s Bridge Foundation, which builds standards of education, leadership, teamwork, health and fitness while instilling values of good citizenship and public service for underprivileged and underrepresented children.

The foundation’s hallmark program is its mentoring network, London’s Brigade, and it also hosts a variety of other educational programs and endeavors.

Alexander and Fletcher — as well as several other Redskins players and coaches — certainly deserve a much-deserved “congratulations” for all they do to help the community.
