Romanowski: Fletcher Deserves Record

For 16 seasons, Bill Romanowski built a reputation as one of the nastiest, most consistent linebackers in the National Football League.

Romanowski built a streak of 243 consecutive games played from 1994 through 2003 as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders — a league record for linebackers.

For 15 seasons, London Fletcher has also built a reputation as one of the most well-respected and consistent linebackers in the NFL.

Heading into Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Fletcher has built his own streak of 238 consecutive games as a member of the St. Louis Rams, Buffalo Bills and the Redskins.

If Fletcher can play five more games, he’ll tie Romanowski’s record; six and he breaks it. And, because of the way Fletcher carries himself on the field, Romanowski is OK with that.

Fan voting for the 2013 NFL Pro Bowl is officially over, and the league’s coaches and players don’t vote until later this week, but four prominent members of the Washington Redskins’ offense have already made the NFC Pro Bowl roster — at least to the folks at ProFootballFocus.com.

The organization today released its own Pro Bowl rosters, and quarterback Robert Griffin III, running back Alfred Morris, left tackle Trent Williams and center Will Montgomery all made the cut.

Here’s what ProFootballFocus.com had to say about each Redskins’ performance so far this season:

Kirk Cousins Apologizes For New Haircut

Posted by Andrew Walker on December 19, 2012 – 3:17 pm

Cousins

Kirk Cousins‘ week got off to a tremendous start.

On Sunday, in his first-career start, the rookie quarterback led the Redskins to their 38-21 win over the Cleveland Browns, as Cousins threw for more than 300 yards, completed more than 70 percent of his passes, had two touchdowns and a quarterback rating better than 100.

After the game, Cousins received a text message from one of his idols, retired NFL quarterback Kurt Warner.

On Monday, Cousins decided to get a haircut — or, as I like to say, he decided to get several hairs cut — so he headed to a local barber shop with that in mind.

That’s, apparently, where Cousins’ good fortunes ended.

Sporting a new buzz cut while addressing the media Wednesday afternoon after practice, Cousins explained that it wasn’t quite the look he was hoping for.

Griffin III And Morris 3, 4 in ‘Rookie Watch’

Posted by Andrew Walker on December 19, 2012 – 1:20 pm

One doesn’t play due to injury and moves down a spot. The other not only plays, but scores two touchdowns in his team’s fifth-straight win and moves up a spot.

That’s the tale of Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III and running back Alfred Morris in the most recent version of “Rookie Watch,” a weekly list of the NFL’s top rookies according to ESPN.com’s Matt Williamson.

Griffin III — who was nursing a sprained LCL in his right knee — was relieved by fellow rookie quarterback Kirk Cousins in last Sunday’s 38-21 win over the Cleveland Browns. Griffin III’s playing status for Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles is yet to be determined, but he’s obviously had a terrific rookie season so far, and was ranked No. 2 in “Rookie Watch” last week.

Morris, meanwhile, continued his own strong rookie campaign against the Browns, running 27 times for 87 yards and two touchdowns. He’s already the Redskins’ rookie record holder for rushing yards (1,322) and touchdowns (nine), and, with two very strong games to finish out the season, he could challenge Clinton Portis’ single-season Redskins rushing record (1,516 yards, set in 2005). Morris came in as the No. 5 rookie in last week’s “Rookie Watch.”

You can read the entire piece by clicking here, but you must have ESPN Insider access to get the whole thing. So for those only interested in what Williamson had to write about the Redskins on the list, here you go:

VIDEO: Redskins’ Gameplan Vs. Browns

The Washington Redskins went into Cleveland last Sunday and defeated the Browns 38-21 with an offensive attack that seemingly didn’t miss a beat without starting quarterback Robert Griffin III, who was nursing a sprained LCL in his right knee.

So how’d they do it?

That’s what former NFL head coaches and NFL Network analysts Brian Billick and Dennis Green examined on a recent segment of “The Coaches Show,” in which they praise Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan for putting rookie quarterback Kirk Cousins in a position to succeed in his first-career start.

Said Billick:

So’oto Keeps Linebacker Play In Family

The Washington Redskins today announced the signing of linebacker Vic So’oto to their active roster from the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad.

So’oto, 25, who will wear No. 58 with the Redskins, was originally signed by the Green Bay Packers as a college free agent out of Brigham Young on July 28, 2011. He was inactive for Weeks 1-3 with Green Bay before making his NFL debut in Week 4 and appeared in seven games for the Packers in 2011, totaling seven tackles (five solo), one sack and adding three tackles on special teams.

But he’s not the first member of his family to make it to the NFL, let alone at the linebacker position.

Slight Change For All-NFC East Redskins

Posted by Andrew Walker on December 19, 2012 – 10:24 am

The Washington Redskins are the hottest team in the NFC, so let’s state the obvious: many of their players are performing at very high levels.

This is apparent in this week’s “All-NFC East Team” compiled by ESPN.com NFC East blogger Dan Graziano, as the Redskins have a season-high-tying eight representatives on the list — which is based on an entire season’s body of work and is not a week-by-week evaluation.

Washington (8-6) had eight All-NFC East players last week, too; though there is a slight change from last week’s list to this week’s.

Here’s this week’s Redskins representatives, with a few comments below:
