Vote Kirk Cousins For Two NFL Awards

In his first-career NFL start, he helped propel his team to first place in the NFC East with two games left in the season.

For his efforts last Sunday against the Cleveland Browns — a 38-21 Washington victory — rookie Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins has been nominated for two weekly NFL awards, and YOU can help him win.The NFL announced today that Cousins was a nominee for both the NFL Rookie of the Week and the NFL “Never Say Die” Moment of the Week — the latter of which Cousins actually won last week.

Voting for Cousins is super easy:

- To vote for Cousins as the NFL Rookie of the Week, go to www.NFL.com/rookies from 9 a.m. today through 3 p.m. (ET) Friday and select Cousins.

- To vote for Cousins’ performance against the Browns as the NFL’s “Never Say Die” Moment of the Week, go to www.NFL.com/GMC during the same timespan — 9 a.m. today through 3 p.m. (ET) Friday — and select Cousins.

The nominations for Cousins continues what’s already been complete domination of the weekly NFL awards circuit for the Redskins’ rookies this season.

Quarterback Robert Griffin III (six times) and running back Alfred Morris (twice) have already combined to win the NFL Rookie of the Week award an astounding eight times this season. That’s in 15 weeks; so, more often than not, a Redskins player has won that award this season over the 31 other teams and their terrific first-year players.

Griffin III has also been voted FedEx Air NFL Player of The Week twice.

Cousins’ nominations this week came after last Sunday’s win over the Browns at Cleveland Browns Stadium. The Michigan State product — making his first-career start in place of Griffin III, who was nursing a sprained LCL in his right knee — completed 26-of-37 passes for 329 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, as the Redskins rolled to the 38-21 victory. The 329 passing yards are the most by any Redskins quarterback this season, and Cousins kept up with Griffin III’s torrid 2012 pace by completing more than 70 percent of his passes and having a quarterback rating better than 100.

The win — coupled with the New York Giants’ blowout loss to the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday — propelled the Redskins (8-6), winners of five straight, into a first-place tie in the NFC East with the Giants and the Dallas Cowboys. The Redskins, however, control their own destiny for both an NFC East crown or a Wild Card playoff spot, as they currently own a tiebreaker against the Giants and have a better head-to-head record against the Cowboys this season. Wins to finish the season Sunday at the Philadelphia Eagles (4-10) and Dec. 30 vs. the Cowboys at FedExField ensure the divisional title and a home playoff game. Several other scenarios could push Washington into one of the Wild Card spots.

Cousins was voted as last week’s NFL “Never Say Die” Moment winner after helping lead his team to its 31-28, overtime victory against the Baltimore Ravens. Cousins — who relieved fellow rookie quarterback Griffin III and his injured knee late in the fourth quarter of the contest — threw a touchdown pass to wide receiver Pierre Garçon and then ran in the two-point conversion himself to tie the game at 28. Redskins kicker Kai Forbath nailed the game-winning kick in overtime to seal the victory.

Morris, meanwhile, is the reigning NFL Rookie of the Week after running 23 times for a career-best 129 yards rushing and a touchdown against the Ravens.

So, as you’ve done all season, Redskins fans, let’s get busy by voting Cousins for both awards. By Friday, we’ll brace ourselves for more great news.
