The third quarter began in today’s game between the Washington Redskins and the Cleveland Browns with not a whole lot of constant action to draw off of in the first half.

That theme definitely changed to start the second half, as the away team set the tone on defense and took advantage on offense.

Heading into the fourth quarter, the Redskins lead the Browns, 24-14.

Here’s some key plays from each drive in the third quarter:

Kickoff: Kai Forbath’s kick is returned by Joshua Cribbs to the 26-yard line.

BROWNS FIRST DRIVE:

1st and 10 <26: Trent Richardson takes the first carry of the half for a gain of one yard.
2nd and 9 <27: Brandon Weeden’s pass is intercepted by outside linebacker Rob Jackson, who made a nice jumping pick across the middle. He returned the ball 17 yards to the Cleveland 15-yard line.

REDSKINS’ ENSUING DRIVE:

1st and 10 <15: Cousins rolls out and finds wide receiver Joshua Morgan for a 12-yard gain.
1st and Goal <3: Cousins rolls out to his right, and his pass to Pierre Garcon falls incomplete.2nd and Goal <3: Alfred Morris barely breaks the plane of the goal line for a three-yard touchdown. That ties the Redskins’ rookie record for rushing touchdowns (eight).
Extra point: Forbath’s kick is good.

13:14: Redskins 17, Browns 14
Drive summary: Three plays, 15 yards, 0:58

Kickoff: Returned 26 yards by Cribbs to the Cleveland 27-yard line.

BROWNS’ ENSUING DRIVE:

1st and 10 <27: Weeden’s pass is complete to Greg Little for a gain of seven yards.
2nd and 8 <29: (After false start) Richardson is stuffed for a loss of one.
3rd and 9 <28: Weeden, in the shotgun, has his pass tipped by outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan. Kerrigan had both tackles and that tipped pass on the drive.
Punt: Reggie Hodges’ kick goes 32 yards to the Washington 40, where it rolls out of bounds.

REDSKINS’ ENSUING DRIVE:

1st and 10 >40: Cousins finds wide receiver Santana Moss for a 17-yard pass and catch.
1st and 10 <43: Morris gets six yards to his right before going out of bounds.
2nd and 4 <37: Cousins rolls out and finds Moss again, who is able to escape a huge hit and get 20 yards.
1st and 10 <17: Morris gets another 11 yards via the run. He’s starting to find his groove.
1st and Goal <6: Morris runs for 2 yards
2nd and Goal <4: Morris catches a pass for two yards.
3rd and Goal <2: Cousins finds Leonard Hankerson wide open along the right side for the two-yard touchdown pass-and-catch. What a nifty little play, and Hankerson has his first two-touchdown performance of his career.
Extra point: Forbath’s kick is good.

7:40: Redskins 24, Browns 14
Drive summary: Seven plays, 60, 3:44

Kickoff: Returned 32 yards by Cribbs to the Cleveland 32-yard line.

ENSUING BROWNS’ DRIVE:

1st and 10 <32: Weeden finds Little across the middle, who’s able to break free for a 20-yard pass and catch and get into Redskins’ territory.
2nd and 6 >44: Montario Hardesty gets a three-yard run.
3rd and 3 >41: Weeden’s pass intended for Josh Gordon is dropped. The Browns are going for it, down 10 and with not much to lose.
4th and 3 >41: Weeden is flushed out of the pocket, and he is forced to throw the ball away with two defenders in his face. Turnover on downs. Huge.

ENSUING REDSKINS’ DRIVE:

1st and 10 >41: Cousins with another nice touch pass, this time to Pierre Garcon for 17 yards. Garcon, however, is called for taunting, and the team is penalized 15 yards.
1st and 10 >43: Morris gets a four-yard run.
3rd and 4 <49: Cousins drops back and tries to find Garcon over the top. Defensive back Sheldon Brown is called for illegal contact, and the Redskins get the first down at the Cleveland 45.
1st and 10 <45: Morris gets one yard on a pitch to the right.
2nd and 9 <44: Cousins is flagged for intentional grounding after throwing the ball in the ground on a broken play.
3rd and 19 >46: Royster gets six yards on a short pass.
Punt: Sav Rocca’s kick is received by Cribbs, who calls a fair catch at the 17-yard line.

ENSUING BROWNS’ DRIVE:

1st and 10 <17: Weeden finds Little for 12 yards across the middle.
1st and 10 <29: Weeden’s pass to Cameron is good for 28 yards.
1st and 10 >43: Middle linebacker London Fletcher picks off Weeden and returns it to the 40-yard line.

ENSUING REDSKINS’ DRIVE:

1st and 10 >33: Morris gains four yards via the run.
3rd and 7 >37: Cousins finds Logan Paulsen wide open for a 19-yard pass-and-catch and the first down.
