The Washington Redskins and the Cleveland Browns are battling it out here at Cleveland Browns Stadium. The Redskins (7-6) are battling for a playoff spot with rookie quarterback Kirk Cousins making his first-career start. The Browns (5-8) are trying to play spoiler in their 2012 home finale.

At halftime, the Redskins trail the Browns, 14-10.

Here’s some key plays from each drive in the second quarter


4th and 2 <42: Punter Reggie Hodges’ punt is downed by Richard Crawford at the Redskins’ 21-yard line.


1st and 10 >21: Kirk Cousins finds Pierre Garcon, who gets four yards on the pass-and-catch.
2nd and 6 >25: Cousins on the play action out of the I-formation finds fullback Darrel Young for an eight-yard gain and the first down. That was a well-designed play.
1st and 10 >33: Alfred Morris gets his first run of the second quarter and runs out of bounds after four yards.
2nd and 6 >37: Cousins — again on play action — finds Garcon on the post route across the middle for a 16-yard gain and into Cleveland territory.
1st and 10 <47: Morris gets nowhere on the run — in fact, he loses a yard.
3rd and 8 <45: Cousins finds Garcon just short of the first-down marker. The rookie quarterback double-clutched on the throw and delivered a low throw to his receiver.
4th and 1 <38: The Redskins try to draw the Browns offside, call timeout, and then line up their offense once again to attempt the conversion. But guard Kory Lichtensteiger is called for his second false start of the game.
Punt: Sav Rocca’s kick is fair caught by Joshua Cribbs at their own 22-yard line.


1st and 10 <22: Weeden’s pass intended for Josh Gordon is off the mark. Nice defense on the play from cornerback Josh Wilson.
2nd and 10 <22: Weeden’s pass was knocked down at the line of scrimmage by Doug Worthington. Nice play by the reserve defensive lineman from Ohio State.
3rd and 10 <22: Weeden gets heavy pressure from Lorenzo Alexander, but his pass to Massaquoi gets nine yards. Another three-and-out forced by the Redskins’ defense.
Punt: Hodges’ punt covers 51 yards and is returned five yards by Crawford.


1st and 10 >23: Cousins finds Joshua Morgan for six yards and his first catch of the game.
2nd and 4 >29: Cousins channels his inner Robert Griffin III and takes advantage of a wide-open running lane to the outside and gets 17 yards before sneaking out of bounds.
1st and 10 >46: Morris gets a one-yard run.
2nd and 9 >47: The Redskins challenge a play ruled incomplete on a sliding catch attempt by Garcon. The ruling on the field, however, stands.
3rd and 9 >47: Cousins, in the shotgun, finds running back Evan Royster for a 25-yard pass and catch. That pass had some great touch on it.
1st and 10 <28: Cousins drops back and slips as he attempts to find a receiver. His throw goes into the ground.
2nd and 10 <28: Morris carries the ball for three yards.
3rd and 7 <25: Cousins’ pass to Leonard Hankerson is incomplete.
Field goal: Kai Forbath nails a 44-yard field goal, his 15th consecutive make to start his career.

5:46: Redskins 10, Browns 7
Drive summary: Nine plays, 51 yards, 3:36

Kickoff: Returned six yards deep by Cribbs and taken 31 yards to the Cleveland 25-yard line.


1st and 5 <30: (After offsides penalty) Trent Richardson is brought down for a loss of one yard.3rd and 5 <30: Weeden finds Gordon for a five-yard gain and a first down. Alexander appeared to suffer an injury on the play.
1st and 10 <35: Weeden finds Gordon again, this time for 12 yards. He’s a speedy receiver, and it showed on that play.
1st and 10 <47: Greg Little gets in on the fun, and catches a 30-yard catch from Weeden to the Washington 23-yard line.
1st and 10 >23: With Cribbs lined up as the quarterback, he hurdles his way for 16 yards.
1st and Goal >7: Weeden finds tight end Jordan Cameron for four yards.
2nd and Goal >3: Richardson is originally ruled to have scored a three-yard touchdown, but a review shows his knee was down just shy of the goal line.
3rd and Goal >1: Richardson gets in for the one-yard touchdown to his left.
Extra point: Phil Dawson’s kick is good.

1:11: Browns 14, Redskins 10
Drive summary: Nine plays, 75 yards, 4:35

Kickoff: Downed in the end zone for a touchback.


1st and 10 >20: Cousins finds Santana Moss, who spins his way for nine yards.
2nd and 1 >29: Cousins finds Morgan for 10 yards and a first down.
1st and 10 <39: Defensive lineman Juqua Parker gets free and sacks Cousins for a 12-yard loss.
